Road Cycling - Speedplay Zeros or Shimano R600 Pedals?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Okay here we go. I've narrowed down my pedal search to these two. I'm really leaning towards the Shimano's mainly because of the price and their so called "overall consistency". It seems like Speedplay pedals are bought mostly by people who need them for some reason whether it be bad knees, joint problems, etc. I've been to a few bike shops and everyone has mixed opinions about the Speedplays. I also don't like the fact that the springs are in the cleats. What feedback do you people have concerning both of these brands? :D zeego
I like the Speedplay Zeros because they're double-sided and have adjustable independent float. The spring mechanism and cleat is really pretty robust. I walk on gravel sometimes with mine. They're pretty beat up but they function perfectly fine regardless. I find them simpler to use and maintain than any other pedal system I've had.
