OK, so it's been awhile since I rode some serious trails on my mountain bike. I used to do nothing but mountain bike but for the last three years I have been a die hard roadie and that is it (except for the occasional jaunt on the park laneway). Well.....yesterday we went on some wicked trails and although the legs, lungs and heart felt great the technical aspects of mountain biking seemed to have been a little rusty. After four wipeouts including three over the bars I am just a weeeeee bit sore and stiff today. I have lacerations on both legs and one arm. I have a bruised tailbone from me seat trying to mate with me. I have bruises....well...where don't I have bruises? And guess what....I loved every minute of it and can't wait to get out there again and show that trail and thing or two. :D I may just have to wait a day or two before I can sit on my seat again.

As a side note, I can't get over how strong my legs are after riding road for so long. I was far stronger in that sense than any of the guys I went riding with who do nothing but trails all the time. The only thing I need is a little time back on the trails to get all my senses working together.

What a great day!

Mountain biking is definitely different from road biking. I do both just to bring more variety to my life.

Mountain biking for skill,

Road riding for the stamina and power

I do about 70% road riding and 30% mtb'ing per week. I've definitely noticed a difference in road riding trained me to sustain power longer on climbs and this easily translated to mtb'ing---I almost always smoke my friends who only ride the trails. Now they are thinking about taking up road riding.

I'm sure there are many great trails and mountains when your 250km north of Sudbury and only 75km from the Quebec/Ontario (middle of no where) border.

hey captain crunch, I know how ya feel! except I've only ever been MTB once last year, just did a casual cruisy day on the trails, and then last weekend, I entered the local Secondary Schools MTB relay champs. Borrowed the PE teachers Santa Cruz with XTR and I was off. A bit slow on the technical sections and held everybody up, but come to the easy parts I smoked everybody. Took it easy on the hard stuff and no real crashes, just overshot a few corners and landed in the tree branches lightly.

Well its been three days and I am still a little sore but I have been back on the road bike and did a great 50 k ride today which helped loosen things up a bit. My tailbone is still really sore but sitting in the saddle didn't hurt too much except when doing really steep hills when I was really working.

We do have plans to hit the trails again this weekend but I think I may not be quite so agressive this time (at least I say that until I get on the bike).
