I'm I to expect this much chit chat on this ride? "Blah blah blah, butt butt butt"? I'll have to bring my ipod and turn it way up. ;)
Anywho... looks like in addition to HW I'll be showing up with 3 other peeps, just in case someone is printing up some route slips.

I'll be bringing route slips but we'll be staying together (unless someone gets bored waiting at the top of hills).
One word of warning about the route slips - not all of the distances are going to be exact, but the turns all work. I've modified the original slip with some changes based on other rides and other recommendations to be a smoother ride.
And, weather looks to be good but chilly. Along the route it's not likely to break 60 degrees and it'll probably be sub-50 for the first couple of hours. Dress warmly!
Thanks for the weather update. I was going to ask about it because it is raining here.

Some potential rain rolling in, but based on the latest forecast it'll be clear until 9 or 10pm tomorrow.

Hey guys, I just went on Amtrak (yes, I did think maybe I could come suprise you, but now forget it :p), and this was listed:
Service Alerts
Coast Starlight Service Disruption Continues — Train Service Suspended Due to Massive Mudslides Across Railroad Tracks North of Chemult, Oregon
I noticed that the only options now available back to Van Nuys are 4:29pm and 6:58pm. This may change tomorrow, but FYI!

Thanks for checking, but I'm not sure what's different. I looked at that and it's the same schedule as usual? We're on the Pacific Surfliner, not the Coast Starlight?
I think the only potential impact is higher ridership on the Surfliner if it's used as an alternative to the Starlight. As always, be prepared to get a hotel in case of unforeseen circumstances (or have a REALLY good friend who's interested in driving up to Santa Barbara to get you).

Normally, there is a Coast Starlight in between the 4:29 and 6:58pm is all. I just wanted you aware. Yes, there could be delays. But you can all crowd into a hotel room if you have to stay over.
And I'll expect lots of pics if that happens. :D

 I think we should change the title of this ride to "Tour de MagicAss," myself. That or the title "Mad Max and His Thunderdome" takes on a whole new meaning. :p

I'll check after I post this, but last time I Amtrak'd by bike you had to take the Coast Starlight cause it's a double decker with bike parking inside. Otherwise you have to check bikes in as luggage on the Surflner.

if the Surfliner is the same one to San Diego, there's a bike rack for 2-3 hanging bikes inside the passenger car. Maybe just one car though?

If it's a group they usually let you roll all your bikes together into the baggage car. That's what the conductor had us do on one of our SB to VN trips last year.
Let's see, who do I know in Santa Barbara?
Ok, I'm out of here. I'm heading to Santa Clarita.

I saw the men over at the station this morning. Nice group! I took them donuts so I could sweeten them into letting me take some pics (I'll post later). They're going to have a great ride. I'm so jealous. Oh, well, off to go hiking.

I am back home.
M.E, thanks for visit in the mornning (From now forward, I have to stroke my iPhone for it to do anything)
I only ended with 55miles because I turned arround somewhere at the west side of simi and went back home to Encino
Took photos and will post later.
Hope everyone had a great ride. I saw Lee (SVCRoadie) at the top of Balcolm at approx 11am. Lee and his group started in Santa Clarita and were chasing the lead group down. I had ridden there this morning to show my friend Len the Balcolm climb.

Hey Shai,
Great to see you as always. :) You cracked me up so much. ;) I'm uploading pics now to put in the report and pix thread. Glad you had a good ride even if you didn't have the time today to go all the way to SB.

I Had A BLAST! Aside from one cramp is was a great ride, flat-less, no crashes, cry-babies, wheel suckers and only one finger from a motorist! I'd say all in all a great day of cycling.
