After I got to work tonight I started to break out in hives pretty badley. I had no idea why, took some benadryl and then over to the E.R. (work in hospital) and the doc gave me some steroids and an epi- pen and sent me home after it cleared up. Talking with my wife I now remember she used sesame oil in chinese chicken salad for the first time. Dang it was good to.

:( I'm allergic to avocado like that. It's so sad. For what it's worth, you have my sympathy.

At least it's reasonably easy to avoid sesame oil. I love chinese food, but being allergic to shellfish, and getting migraines from MSG has put me off eating about 99% of it. I can eat plain rice though :p .

I know how you feel. I love animals, but i'm highly allergic to cats. To the point I can't be in the same house with them. It wasn't always like that, I developed my allergy in the last 6 years.
I don't think I'm allergic to anything. Maybe big pharma. Yes, definitely.

That would kill me to have to give up my cats :( . Mr. East Hill would be highly upset too. He loves his Sammi...

Many of the higher end Chinese places do not use MSG at all. Others will make your without using it (Though that route would depend on just how sensitive you are).
Or you could learn to cook it yourself.

I've been burned too often to trust anyone to tell me that they don't use it--even just the amount in soy sauce can give me migraines :( .
So, yes, I've learned to make my own :D . It's much easier that way!
