I'm new to night riding, I just have a cheapy cateye light for now.

I need something that is going to allow me to actually see at night.
I was looking at NiteRider lights, and I can get a great deal on all of there lights.
But I don't know if they are a good company to go with.
What's the word on this brandname?
Also if you were going to buy from them which light do you recommend?
I was looking at the MiNewt X2 and the Sol.

Thanks in advance!

NiteRider is one of the oldest & best repected companies. Especially if you can get good prices, they are great lights.

what kind of riding are you doing? the MiNewt is great, the Sol i think is cheaper & dimmer (older led's maybe). A fair number of folks have the MiNewt.X2 Dual which makes about 300 lumens and the owners love 'em.

I've had 2 of their Halogen and 2 of their HID systems w/o issues.

I've been using NiteRider every since doing the 24@9 race up in Wausau, WI. NiteRider provides on-site race support and has even fixed my light in the middle of a race free-of-charge (had a used HID light and it appeared that the previous owner had opened it up and messed it up so it wouldn't turn off). This has made me extremely loyal to NiteRider.

I prefer the HID systems I have (Enduro and BlowTorch) due to the higher light output and 4 hr runtimes. I don't have any experience with their newer products...

I've had the Trail Rat and a Classic. Liked them both for quality and performance. I have since gone with a high output LED system not because of anything being wrong with them just that I can get a longer ride time from LEDs.

The MiNewt X2 is roughly twice as bright as the older MiNewt, and the Sol/Solmate are between the new and old MiNewts. They both work well, and the mount is dead simple to use. I'm not a fan of the button on the battery, but it works. The MiNewt X2 is least expensive light that comes with a Li-Ion battery.

Great responses, thanks!

I do about 12 miles home from work at about 11 pm and it is PITCH black, barely any street lights.

I was reading reviews on mtbr and it seemed like the minewt got some great reviews.
I also noticed the trinewt got amazing reviews.
I can get my hands on the trinewt for about 200 bucks and the minewt for about 100.
I also do some night rides with buddies 15-20 miles just to cruise in well lit areas.
I think the trinewt might be a better buy for me though on the ride home from work.
What do you guys think?

Can't go too wrong with those products. If you want to mess with do it yourself, you can do better.

wowza, if you can get the trinewt for 200 smackers, I say go for it! this is a state of the art, long runtime, simple, reliable system. and you will have PLENTY of light, & ability to dim for loger runtimes if needed.

cheers

ya the trinewt is enough light to ride wicked hard MTB race-courses wicked fast. it's actually way too much light for what you describe. so, go for it especially if you can get one for 200 bux !!!!

and for the trinewt mounting strap...don't be afraid to yank the hell out of it when you wrap it on your bars. it is about impossible to rip or tear it.
