Introductions - New in Boone NC

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hello. I just registered for this forum. I registered cause I am looking for an inexpensive road bike to ride on trainers during the winter (cause it gets COLD up here) and next year to get in shape. I am mainly a BMX and mountain bike rider, but I really want to get into road bikes as well. I figured reading here could maybe help me decide what bike to get.

Welcome to the forums Eric,
as for road bikes, you might want to look into Giant, Specialized, Trek or Ironhorse as they will probably have a pretty good deal for a lower end road bike... You could also try to get a bike used off of ebay or maybe through a LBS. Either way it shouldn't be too hard to get something as a winter trainer... :)

I actually called Performance and they can get me a Giant OCR2 for 550 (the '03 model) which is probably what I am gonna do. If anyone can help me beat this for under 700 dollars I'm all ears

Greetings from Winston Salem.
Once you start riding you might want to check into the Piedmont Flyers' rides east of Winston.

Say Hello to the guys at Boone Bicycle and Touring for me! Very cool shop. Is Rock and Roll still up and running?
I considered moving to the Boone area several years ago and my wife and I spent a lot of long weekends and ALL our vacations up there for a couple of years. Love the area, love the town, love the people! Wasn't too crazy about the traffic.

Rock and Roll was there last year, i don't see why they'd go anywhere.
Magic cycles is a cool little shop there too (across from Footsloggers)
I had my eye on a Felt that was for sell at Magic Cycles, went with a litespeed instead. I like boone...
hey EricF, if you like vegeterian type food, go eat at Angelica's. I'm not even a vegeterian and it was wonderful. I may have to take a weekly trip there :) (I'm in Johnson City, about 1:15hr from you)

Just curious, I like the shop, but heard the owner died in a motorcycle accident and the wife wasn't sure she was going to keep the shop open. Glad to hear she did decide to keep it running!

Well I guess I know why Rock and Roll sports is closed now.
Ritalin : The resturants my friends and I go to religiously are Hunan's Chinese, Los Arcios, Formally Caribbian Cafe (it closed this summer cause the head chef was totally incompent at running a buisness, but man were their wings the best), and Dos Amigos. I am all about the meat.
I really like Magic Cycles, but they don't really have much road biking stuff and I am fine on the mountain bike front.
and a2psyklnut, the traffic just keeps getting worse, especially now since one of the major roads always has a lane closed or something.
