This would be the place to suggest any of your favorite brews...I am one who appreciates good beer, and I'm therefore always looking to try something new.
My favorites: Murphy's Stout (better than Guinness), Arrogant Bastard Ale (has the rough consistancy of used motor oil), Old Rasputin, and Sierra Nevada Blonde Ale (difficult to come by, but I have connections).

(This would be a good time to mention that this "Beer" thread seems to be a recurring one. But that doesn't mean it will be any less interesting!) :)

If you want a good stout try Beamish - in my not so humble opinion better than Murphys or Guinness.
If you want some good beer reviews have a look at www.epinions.com , there's a particularly gifted writer who goes under the name of latakiahaze...

Also Beamish is the only Irish stout that is brewed in Ireland. Guiness and Murphys both have plants in England. And since Beer is mainly water, the source of the water is crucial.
Guinness brewed from Liffey water is bound to be completely different from Guinness brewed from the Thames near Reading . . . .
My particular hate is beer that pretends to be what it ain't. Like Carlsburg Export that isn't. and Grolsch used to come from Holland, but some time last year it started being brewed under license in the UK (very small print on the can).
But in general tho' Beer is great carbo loading. I've had some of my best races still hungover from a big session nite before.

Funny you guys should mention Beamish. I just had my first taste of it at a local establishment week before last. I tried a pint even though I am not really a stout drinker. I found it smoother than both Murphy's and Guinness and less "black coffee" tasting than the latter.
There are many beers that I like, but I doubt anything will ever supplant good old Bass Pale Ale as my all-time number 1. The only problem is that I very seldom have nerve to buy a six-pack. Too often the beer has not been properly stored or is old so the taste is not good.
Newcastle Brown Ale!
Enough said , i`m not going down that road again. :p

Hehe...I  !
Bestest ever has to be the spicy white beer known by the name Hoegarten from Holland...(please correct me Toolfreak if I'm wrong :)!)
I had a couple of pints of this stuff and was loaded for the rest of the week...great stuff!

Sorry Rich, if it's Hoegaarden it's Belgian. Superb beer, started by an ex-milkman.
If you like Hoegaarden you ought to try some of the Bavarian Wheat beers - your local Safeway should have at least a couple of different ones. The Hopback brewery do a couple of good English Wheat beers.
 Richard
Well, I have tried some of the above mentioned brews, but finding them with any regularity out here in the country can be a problem!
I like my home brew, or Fat Tire, or of course Rolling Rock. But, for everyday, it is Coors Light. Yeah, yeah, I know...just like drinking water...but it has carbs and protien, and low in calories...my perfect sports drink!:D

I'll take any Hefe Weizen any day. New Castle on draft is wonderful too!
There's a restaurant on the wharf in Santa Barbara CA that serves New Castle in huge glasses. Naja's on the International Wharf (or Boardwalk) in Redondo Beach, CA has 777 different kinds of bier with 77 of which are on tap!! Check it out! No I never lived in LA or Santa Barbara , but traveled extensively while on active duty. No!, not bier place to bier place either!! I wish! :D
As a "home brewer", I make & enjoy many types of bier! In our new location (Illinois), I understand it gets much colder in the winter. So instead of being able to ride, I'll just unpack the ole "Cajun" cooker and brew up a bunch of batches for summer consumption.
My rule still holds, 20 miles before a bier is opened. Fortunately, I have a whole lot of banked miles, so winter bier drinking is no problem!

It sure is... Funnily enough when I was living in Wales i went to Dublin on a day trip and didn't come back for three days... can't think why :D

I'm not a great lager or pilsner drinker but I agree with you. You can still get imported Grolsch (the larger bottles tend to be okay - forget any canned beer). The Czech beers are pretty good and all imported - try Budvar budweiser (no relation to the American product) or if you fancy an American beer both Samuel Adams Boston Lager and Liberty Ale are available in supermarkets over here.

My husband makes the best Porter I've ever tasted.
The old stand-by, however, is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - in a bottle, please.
Seconds and thirds for the Newcastle Brown Ale.
Nothing compares to a FRESH pint of Guinness served by my favorite barmaid, lovely Val. A more spiritual and pure experience I could not imagine. I humbly thank the gods for both of them.

Hoegaarden, mmm i think its Belgian beer from Maastricht (Holland), pretty weird ,but it sure taste good.
BTW, does anyone know Leffe? its abbey beer and of course Belgian, I can`t take it anymore  tommorow i`l buy a can of this true "lifewater" :D
I love Murphys especially the Irish Amber.Unfortunately living in south alabama you just cant find it.My dad was in upstate NY recently and picked some up as well as some of my other favorites by Saranac. They have a great pale ale, black and tan and a good bavarian black called black forrest. As far as something i can get in S alabama i do like sierra nevada pale ale
When I could get it I thought Dortmunder Union as fine a brew as there is. I haven't seen it in a pub here in Fla, USA in several years though. Am currently drinking a bottle of Spaten and I have no objections. Here in the US Sam Adams makes a good beer and they come out with seasonal specials. The current OctoberFest is a very good dark.
Not the best beer but the best slogan belongs to Wartsteiner.
Life is too short to drink cheap beer. I couldn't agree more and since the city of Lantana has a German club that throws a superb OctoberFest I'll be walking the walk.
Though maybe not in a real straight line
;)

A Dunkle Wartsteiner tastes pretty good.
Anchor Porter is a good, special once-in-a-while beer. In fact, I probably haven't had it in a handful of years. IBC Root Beer fills in the gaps nicely, though.

I lived in Germany for a total of 8 years and the pints served there are unmatched here in the US. That is one sweet glass of stout no doubt.
Didn't like Kilkenney. My Fav German beer by far is Weltenburger Kloster Baroque Dunkel. Best beer in the world for me. Brewed since 1050!!!!

Don't know if you guys in the states can get hold of this ..but Australia's Victoria Bitter is a very fine drop !
When touring I do about 30miles ppoh (per pint of Heiniken)
At home 80 shilling or Budweiser Budvar (the eastern european one, not the horses p*** one)
I forgot to mention Budvar in my last post...tres yummy!!! I was lucky enough to go to the Cezch (?) Republic about 5 or 6 years ago now, and they had it on tap....about 10pence a pint....we got absolutely twisted!!!
Hehe...ofcourse, it's an appreciation thing now...now that I'm older....urm.....

Warsteiners slogan is pretty good, but have you ever noticed around the bottlecap is (in Deutsch) "The king of the beers". Now we know where Budweiser stole that from. :)

I did develop a taste for Guiness while I was living in Northern Ireland some time ago. But Guiness hangovers are bad
