Southern California - Any regular weekend group MTB rides starting from top of Reseda?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I went on my first MTB ride a few weeks ago with a group of guys from the meetup.org Ventura county group. We left from the top of Reseda (Caballero Canyon I believe). It was great, and I'd love to do more MTB rides on the weekends, but these guys don't go that often (or sometimes they go but too early for me--7:00). Since I'm not a big fan of MTB'ing solo, are other group rides that go out of that area (or other areas local to the Valley) on the weekends?

There are always people riding up there, maybe you could ask if you could join a group? You could also try the OTB club, (Over the Bars). They have a regular schedule of rides and are some good riders.

If I can ever get my act together, I want to try out Reseda myself as I hear it's great for beginners (Reseda). But I have to get my mtbike tuned up with new pedals. A must for the new year.

Let's pick a day and do it! I am dying to get out, but can't seem to drag myself out solo. My motivation sucks when left to my own devices.

There is a MTB group in the Conejo Valley, called the North Ranch Mountain Bikers (www.nrmbc.org). I've never ridden with them, but they have a monthly calendar of rides you may be interested in...

Thanks, I'll check that out.
It was such a blast. Very exhilarating. Good workout. Nice steep climbs, but not too steep, and pretty challenging downhills. Really nice change from road riding. Different kinds of risks. Worried some about wiping out, but didn't have to worry about some inattentive driver smacking into me, or making sure I was staying "four-from-the-door".
If we could form group to do a BF ride up there that would be great. Let's just see if we can begin at a decent time, like 8:00 or later. It's rough getting up early enough to make it there by 7:00 on a weekend morning.

Thanks. Checked out their website--pretty impressive. Not a lot of group rides on the weeknds though; at least not on their calendar. Maybe it's just the time of year. Was hoping to find a regular local weekend group ride that leaves around 8:00 or so.

This is a fee for use site but it has a core group of riders who organize rides just about every weekend. Or you can start a ride yourself...

Was thinking about organizing one. Problem is I don't know where I'm going once I get to the top of Reseda. If I knew someone else with experience in the area was going I'd be happy to set something up. (Hint: volunteers?) Sounds like at least a few folks here would go, assuming we pick a good date.
I'd really like to do something like this once or twice a month. It's a lot of fun and a great change of pace from being on the road. Not that I mind being on the road.... (aka, "not that there's anything wrong with that....")
Edit: Was thinking of something like this: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/1649618

So you climbed Caballero Canyon to dirt Mulholland, then did you turn right? Did you go to a gate and make a left at the gate?
I'm pretty familiar with the area and I'll post something here next time I'm going up there, but I do ride the road most of the time.
Once in a while our club goes there.

Can't remember but that sounds right, though I could have sworn we made a right at the gate (went around the gate on its left, and there was a bump to go over as we passed the gate). Could have been a left. Then on the way back, after a pretty steep and long climb, about 3-4 miles out, some people took a single track that was said to be pretty narrow with a steep drop off to the side, and me and one other guy took the fire road that pretty much paralleled the single track (though we couldn't see it). That was all downhill. We met up again about a mile from Reseda.

it requires alot of upper body strength to control a mtb. Sorry Vance, maybe if you start eating

Sounds like you went to Sullivan Canyon, a good ride. There are lots of options up there.

So if you're up for joining a BF ride all we need to do is pick a date. What do you think?

Make it so. I'll even go Christmas morning if you can sell it to Vance and maybe M.E.
George, too.

I would do Christmas morning. Who else is up for it then? Say 8:00? I think it took about a 3.5-4 hours with reasonable breaks after the two climbs and a shorter one at the midpoint of the ride.
If that day doesn't work then let's do a Saturday in January (everyone let us know what days work for you).
