Blinkies

I purchased some Planet Bike blinkies for my kids' bicycles and am wondering if others have used these and if they are adequate. They would seem to be okay in very dark places. Thanks for any input!

The Planet Bike Superflash is my favorite.

Blinking mode is good for daytime, But I would strongly recommend using the steady mode when it's dark.

Yeah which PB blinky? The superflash is excellent, I put on my son's bike.

They are not the superflash, but the small 2 light set. Tried them today and they seem adequate , much more noticeable at night.

I have that set on one of my bikes. I like that they are so small. They are OK on roads that are already well lit, like suburban streets, but I would consider getting a couple of super flashes anyway, if the kids will be out a lot at night.

They are just that good...the added peace of mind is worth it. My opinion...

I have 2 PB superflash blinkies, side by side, attached to the back of my seat pack. I ride at night this time of the year as it is my only time to get out during the work week. Cars swerve way out of the lane to get away from me. I've read comments from some who say it looks like an emergency light in the distance. With two, I can set one to blink and one in steady mode.

In addition, I also wear a reflective vest with a battery-controlled LED light down the back, I have tires w/reflective rims, pedals with reflectors on both sides, reflectors on each wheel, and two headlights.

With lights, it is very important to see AND be seen. It doesn't guarantee no one will hit me (there's always the cell phone talker or drunk driver to be concerned about), but at least no one can claim in a court of law that I wasn't visible if they do.

Adequate is a subjective. Obviously anything is better than nothing.

I often think that more is better and during this time of year my commute is done in the dark both ways and my daytime riding is limited to the weekends.

I run dual lights front and rear and besides always having a rear light I also have a blinkie mounted to the back of my helmet which is also quite reflective.

I think that people often overlook the fact that your helmet is one of the best places to mount lights and reflectors as it is the highest and most visible point and what motorists will see first.

In addition to lighting I also use 3m reflective tape on many of my bikes as it offers 360 degrees of highly reflective surfaces and am sure this has saved my life on quite a few occasions.

Those little 1 LED ones? I have those on my bike, they're pretty good, I have the back on blink, which is more noticeable, and the front on solid, just because the blinking is kind of annoying. If you're not annoyed by it though, have it on blink since they aren't for lighting up the road, they're for alerting others of your position.
