I bought one of the things off ebay for $20 inc shipping. My guess is you might be able to get them at close outs for less. It does work, you need to be almost directly in front or behind it to work. Range I would say is 20ft or maybe as much as 30ft. While not a necessity, it is a cheap luxury/toy.
