Road Bike Racing - Do professionals...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. So you want a mass generalization about all professional cyclists?
Are you serious?

At the former top-end of Americans, Tyler Hamilton has a degree, Lance doesn't...

Yes the peleton (as a group) has some college experience- now don't ask for a list of which riders have some and which ones don't.
On to the next winter question.

I think Chechu was studying EE and would often take his books on the bus. Not sure if he has finished his degree yet or not.

Ron Kiefel of the 1986 7/11 team had a couple of years at the engineering college I went to.

A significant portion of British national team sportsmen and women go or went to Loughborough University where they've got some serious sports science programmes. Which is good too, so that when you find yourself forcibly retired at 26, you can make a living as a qualified coach, trainer, administrator, or whatever in your given sport.
Birmingham University has an extensive sports science dept. that cranks out plenty of pro-athletes in the more obscure sports.
Sucks, of course, in university cycling races when the Loughborough team is like half Olympians and Olympic alternates and all but a handful of the rest are on the national development squad. :)
There are also specialist sports high schools too... My ex-girlfriend actually went to one. Then she studied Theology at Oxford after asthma ended her semi-pro field hockey career. :)
i wondered this as well. I alot of other sports, people complete at the university level and then are then signed to pro teams. I dont know of any football players that skipped college and went strait to pro.

close but no cigar I guess. He said he wanted to eventually, but if he didn't take advantage of the last couple year hiatus, I doubt he ever will. Danielson has one I think.
Zabriskie went to a good university IIRC.
Tommy Danielson also raced collegiates

Correct. The women pros (US and Australians in any case) tend to be better educated.
