The fall has suddenly hit us around here, and I'm really enjoying that almost eerie feeling in the morning, when it's still pretty dark, the wind is gently rolling, and the ominous clouds are reminding us that summer is ending. The ground is once again wet, and those trees are starting to turn. It is a very peaceful fealing riding right through the season changing.
I know Oregon has very mild seasons compared to most of the country/world... I would love to see places like New England sometime in the fall....
Are you getting that autumn feeling where you are?
The weather is of course nearly the same here in WA, but I completely agree with your sentiments. Fall is my favorite season and I really love the feeling of change that is in the air. Ominous is a good way to put it. I like the balance of temperature and the variability in the weather, and the shorter days just make certain activities such as reading that much more enjoyable. I really enjoy dark beers, soup, thick breads all foods more welcome in cooler weather.
However not being a morning person I really find my outdoor activities really dimished, due to lack of light. I do keep my bike commuting going as long as the weather isn't too severe.

The only real difference in San Jose so far is that it's a little chillier in the a.m., and darker. On the ride home the shadows are very noticable.
We still have quite a way to go before I have to break out the thick gloves, etc., but the other morning I actually had to wear a second layer shirt. (We've had a bit of a cold spell recently.)

There's been a big change here in Colorado over the last week or so. It's such gorgeous weather to be out on the bike. Not enough for heavier gloves yet, but enough that I have used a second upper layer already.
Saturday's forecast is for a low of 36 / high of 54, and there was snow in the Rockies yesterday (about 5 inches in some spots).
Gettin' that autumn feeling for sure....

I love the smell of autumn and the cooler weather helps with the cycling the things I don't like is the dark in the AM now and our upcoming grey winter :(
No big change here in southern AZ, although the highs are "only" in the mid-90's for the next couple of weeks.
booyah, I miss the spring and the fall in Denver!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I will be needing lights for my morning commute starting in the next week or so.
A big change here, of course, but great weather so far. Mornings can be a bit chilly already, some 3-6 degrees C, but it tends to warm up quickly. I enjoy the colors of autumn a lot.

In the UK, autumn only started to show itself yesterday, weve been having a really warm (ie low 70s) dry spell. The blackberry bushes which line most country lanes are bursting with fruit, so on most rides I stop to collect a bag. I have a couple of favourite patches which are particularly good.
My new commute starts on Monday, about 25mins across town, almost all on marked bike routes/lanes/paths. This is probably going to be a suit and tie ride, so the cooler weather is ideal.
It's been considerably cooler on my morning commute. Very nice in fact. In the afternoon it's still a bit warm, but autumn is definitely arriving. I noticed last week that I'm arriving with water left in my bottle, which is a sure sign of cooler weather here.
This week has been great, this morning I could see my breath. The leaves a re just starting to change and the grass is wet in the morning. Fall is my favorite time of the year. Last week the local Crew racers started to work out on the river and I stop and wave to them as I cross the bridge in the morning.

Yes and it sucks!! :crash:
The daytime highs and the nighttime lows are 5-8 degrees (F) cooler than normal. :crash:
Fall, autumn, and winter are all four letter words to me!!
I'm one of those strange cyclists who likes riding in the heat.

Past week It's been two layers & full (light) gloves.
(Sigh), I'll miss the short sleeves & 1/2 finger gloves this winter.
We have had a change here in New Hampshire. Now the jackets are coming out and the breath is showing in the am.
I agree that the only deal about the fall is the dark mornings.
Our leaves will be changing in just a few weeks.
