View Full Version : Christmas day, in the Westlake area?
Anybody riding in or near Westlake on Christmas day?
Nobody? I'll probably just head out toward Malibu and ride around the mountains for a few hours...

I'm out of town, but I think Brodsky was planning on riding that day.

If riding in the SM mountains early tomorrow, you can expect warm temps and winds above 30 mph. Heading south, as per usual for Santa Anna's. Yeah, one of those days. Diminishing winds as the day progresses - so say the weather forcasters.
Cooler temps return on Wednesday, with possible rain on Friday.

I think I'm riding with a couple of friends this morning. The latest plan is Rock Store and up. We're heading out around 9 and should pass Agoura Road and Kanan (where Islands is) within 10 minutes or so. You're welcome to join in! (but we ain't no racers, that's for sure....). I'm be on a Giant OCR2 with silver bar tape.
Wind is up this morning but could be somewhat sheltered in the hills.

Wow, just checked the surf cams for the coast. Offshores are screaming with lots of whitecaps and spray. It's blowing pretty hard folks. Like I said, it won't be too impossible in the protected areas of the canyons but if you get into exposed spots, it will be tough!

Postponing my Xmas ride here in Westlake Village to later today. Too windy right now to do much good.
Did a nice ride (http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4645100). Went east first along frontage roads to Woodland Hills and then up Topanga Canyon to catch Mullholland Highway. Took that to the 23 and then dropped back into Westlake. It was very windy up on Mullholland, especially after the Rock Store and the last stretch after breaking off from Encinal.

I should have gotten you out of bed to join us!
I went out with Joel (owner of Agoura Cycles) and Eugene, one of the guys who also does the shop ride on Saturdays. Our plan was to ride Rock Store and beyond.
Joel looked at the wind and opted to change out his deep dish Zipps! After a short delay we headed out but changed the route to Hidden Valley. We had heard that Mulholland was getting big winds.
We had a great tail wind going in but as soon as we made the right hand sweeping turn mid-way, we had a cross wind. We were fighting that for a while.
On the backside, we battled strong gusts on Lynn, even having to pedal downhill at times! It was pretty nasty in there.
The stretch from TO back to Agoura was all headwind and very slow. We saw only a couple of other riders the entire day. Still, a fun ride with some good bike handling practice!
