Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. From a previous post I made about coast-to-coast ...
A question to all you ultra-riders out-there 300km+ days do you think that it is possible for someone to travel 300-350 km a day for 20 consecutive days ,on a vegan diet and drinking only WATER SOLO do not think about age conditioning or elements just off the top of your head the first impression you get could this actually be done ,and what would be the most diffucult part attempting such a journey ,I am not some-one ranting on and looking for an entourage ,I am attempting such a jouney and do-not know many ultra-riders I have visited the ultra riders site and have seen some similar rides ,I would like some oppinions from people that have done some similar distance ..
I am very well aquainted with the wake up -ride -eat- sleep -and repeat my weeks last summer were between 700 and 1200 km and I know that between 300-and 350 even with some 12000 cal exhaustion plays a role ,It would be great to hear from some people that have been faced with similar challenges ,I am atempting this solo which turns into a head game ,no luggage except for the basics ,motels and food along the way ...
Thanks and merry xmas too all..
Namaste ..
Steven...
My only worry is that there are enough places where you can get a vegan meal... and will those meals provide you with enough energy to allow you to ride on day 12 - 20...
***I am an omnivore and respect your choice of eating style, but I am a little curious as to how your going to get the calories necessary for the ride.
Also, since you are going cross country I'd assume that you are taking panniers for supplies. What is the total weight and have you counted that into your overall calorie consumption?
I hope you're not doing this just to prove to people who said it can't be done that they're wrong. That's a very silly reason to try this.
With that aside, where you're getting your calories becomes very problematic. I'd imagine you'll have bananas, bread, pasta and oats spewing out your ears by the time you're done but I think it might be possible with careful planning.

Well, this is about 5.5 consecutive PBP's (Paris-Brest-Paris = 1200 km). Say it takes 90 hours to do 1 PBP then you will need 495 hours of riding. To do it at this pace (the minimum for PBP) in 20 days you would need to ride 24.75 hours/day. Hmmm.
Okay. Say you can ride 16 hours/day. That would be the equivalent of riding PBP in (16/24.75)*90 = 58 hours for 5.5 consecutive PBP's. That's an average of about 1200/58 = 20 km/h or 13 mph while you on the bike.
It's definitely conceivable.

It's possible.
So many factors.
How is your ... undercarriage, for one? That would be my Achilles Heel. No matter the attention I would pay to bibs, seat, creams, clean shorts; I would end up with saddle sores pretty fast at 12-16 hours a day in the saddle.
As far as psychological or physiological effects, I am almost certain that 300+ km/h days for 20-odd days will put you into serious over-reaching, if not over-training. I am interested in hearing from people who have tried one-year records, like Ken Bonner. He'd be a good guy to ask.

A vegan meal !!!! The route is full of grocery stories ,this is where I do my eating I know how many calories I need a day and the caloric demand is not a factor 10000-12000 calories when you know how to get them isint that much of a head-banger ,its not having mobile that makes me wonder about time ,I carry food enough for 4-5 hrs then re-fuel ,water is the same no extra weight ,I also respect the omnivores but I choose to save my energy for the pedals then using it to digest and weight me down ...

Its personal a challenge and a fund raiser * perhaps* if I can meet the right people and get things together .If I want mobile I need the funds .Its a passion a dream and I believe that I have the mind for it ,my knees I dunno !!!! The training and ramp up are aggresive ...I plan on weighing the same from start to end ...carbs are not the only source of fuel ;) fats at 9 cal/gr in my zone 1 which will be most of my ride will pull me through and they are easy too find ...
Thanks ...
