Hello guys. I have been wrestling with this idea for a few months now, and have decided to post it on here to keep me motivated, and maybe even get some tips.

Last year I completed a half marathon and century bike ride on the same day. Did the half marathon in one hour and 44 minutes, and I did the century in 4 hours and 57 minutes. I did this and it was hard. But at the end of the day it was one of the most enjoyable days of my life.

For this year I am going to complete my ironman, I am going to swim and ride two days before I run the Marine Corps marathon in Oct. I am going to call this My Ironman, and next year I will try to fly out to Hawaii and actually do the Ironman.

I am training like mad now, running mostly and riding my trainer. I am posting this up here to keep my motivation up. I also hope to drop down to 190ish by the time this is all over, if not less than that. I am 6'4 and 220 right now.

Merry Christmas everyone,
Cole.

Just so you know...You have to qualify for Hawaii (Kona) ironman. There are plenty of great races around the world that you can sign up for but they sell out in days (Lake Placid sold out in 3 hours!) I would recommend finding a race you want to do and sign up for it the day registration opens (usually 1 year prior to race day).

Good luck have a great time!

Nice job on the sub 5 hour century! I wish I had that kind of speed.

Check out the Ironman Triathalon website - there are several 1/2 Ironman competitions held around the country if you're not able to qualify for the fully monte (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile ride and 13 mile run.) There's one in my backyard that I'm thinking of trying this summer.

For the full on Ironman, I believe they make available a certain number of spots in various categories to those that wouldn't otherwise qualify. So it's worth a shot to go for a lottery spot.

Good luck and keep up the training!

I work at a bike shop, so you can buy your way in. It is seventy dollars but still. I thought about doing a half one this year, just for kicks.

I went out and did the wrench work for the double and triple iron man held at Lake Anna this year, in my backyard = ).

Keep up the good work. You should also post over in the Triathlon forum.

Also, keep in mind that you have to qualify to compete in Kona, and that's not the only Ironman (you have to race in a local Ironman and do well to qualify). Ironman just refers to the distance of the race.

BTW, I like your name.

.Cole,

Good goal! You CAN do it, by the way. As mentioned above though, the Hi Ironman is a qualified for event. Be proud as hell though, to see one of our Clyde's make it in, and even better, win it!

Semper Fi!

Today is my long run/fun day. I ran 15.3 miles, according to my forerunnner. Then I came home and did the Spinerval recovery video.

Coming along great.

I actually bought Guitar Hero 2 today as well, and just finished playing it.

Cheers!

Go for it and good luck. My older brother completed his first full I-man last month and is now considering doing more. I'm in training for an Olympic distance in the fall - haven't swam for a number of years and need to get my stamina back up - and will probably do a sprint in the spring as a test. Nothing like what you're considering.

What do you mean by "finished". If you mean that you beat the whole thing on expert, then I envy you. I can beat every song on expert except freebird, and it has haunted my dreams for months. What a great game though. I'm working my way through GH3 right now.

I actually meant GH3, I beat 2 a few months ago. I have every song on expert in GH3 except Knights of Cydonia. Which is bothering the hell out of me, the only other song I had trouble with was Metal by Tenacious D.
