Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Need some advice on what to get please?

I am going to purchase my 1st set of clipless pedals and road shoes this week. Hopefully Dec 25th because Bike Performance has 20% off. My delima (since I am new at this) is what pedals should I get? I found some Forte Ti's I like but it says 176lb weight limit. I am at 220lbs. I dont want to bust the jewels or do a face plant because I snapped a pedal. I have $150 in Bike Performance gift cards and the shoes I am buying are $90 plus tax. So I have $60 bucks left over(plus my perfomance points, about $30). What will be a good pedal for me and not break? My brother-in-law told me to buy the Look pedals but I dont have his kind of money. Im a budget rider. Thanks in advance for the info.

Road or mountain?

I ride MTB and "BENTS".

I've used Wellgo and Shimano 323 style pedals for 12 years. With my new 29r' I decided for something a little different and went with Crank Bros. Candy SL's. From the first time I stepped into these pedals on Saturday, I felt the difference with the float, release and even the entry. With the extra platform, they give me a solid base on my MTB Shoe, and the cleat is smaller and less height so it makes walking much easier.

The make some much lighter ones than the ones I have, but I like the functions of the Candy SL. I bought one extra pair for the other MTB and when the next shipment comes, the BENT with have the same one put on it too.

I also recommend CrankBros pedals. Depending on what type of bike/riding you do, they make a pedal for you. I'm mostly a commuter on a hybrid, so I went with the Smarty's, and I love them.

Oh, and they are relatively inexpensive. Great budget pedals. Performance Bike has a bunch of CrankBros pedals on sale. If you sort the mountain bike pedals by price, the five least expensive pedals are CrankBros.

Not sure of your riding style but you may want to consider SPD pedals if you want the ability to walk around comfortably in your cycling shoes. I use Specialized M520 SPD pedals and Pearl Izumi mountain bike shoes on my road bike and am very happy with them. I tried some Forte SPD pedals for a while and was dissapointed. The mountain bike shoes conceal the cleat and allow you to walk comfortably while also providing a good displacement of pressure between pedal and foot while providing solid attachment. Good quality SPD's combined with good quality mountain bike shoes will allevaite problems with 'hot spots'.

If you are not conerned with walking in your bike shoes then I would recommend going with road pedals and shoes. Everyone has different needs... but you were looking for input.
