I am currently thinking about converting our road tandem to disc's. Along with that I am going to "Flip&Clip" a set of drop bars and install bar end shifters and cross top levers. I have set up my training single in this manner, and have grown very fond of it.
The question I have is, due to the ease of getting 203mm mountain disc's on e-bay, will the cross tops takeup enough cable or will I need to go with road disc's?

I'll leave the question to others who know, but one word of caution, make sure that the fork and frame have enough clearance for 203's. My ride came with 160's, but would only take 185's b/c the 203's would not clear either.......... and that the fork is approved for larger discs.......some are not.

If you are not going to use STi's or Ergo shifters you can just buy a set of road bike lever design to pull far more cable to be used with v-brakes and conventional (none road version) mechanical disc.

The Original cross tops from paul's IRD, etc, pull the same about of cable as the "main Brake" since the were design at the time of cantilever brakes.

but many of the newer ones (pretty much everybody that copy the originals) provide a angle differential so they pull a little more cable making them more compatible with current designs like V-brakes and mechanical disc.
