Ok which crankset is better, shimano 600, or the 105. This will be the older crankset, the FC1056 for the 105 crank. In addition what else would fit with the square taper bottom bracket, that year obviously. Due to my shredded thread, no LBS is willing to fix it, therefore leaving me to buy another crankset.

600 is equivalent to Ultegra.

Definetly, the 600 is better than ultegra. but, the 105 has gone into tech advancements since the last 600.

FYI:
the "FC-1056" Crank came with the 1993 105SC (1055) and 1994 105SC (1055) groupset and 1995 105SC (1056). In 1996 (1057), there were 2 cranks released for the group, the FC-1056 and the FC-1057.

the last FC-1056 appeared on the 1998 105SC, and was replaced with the FC-5500/5503 in 1999 105 group (5500).

In the same year(1993), Shimano 600 had the "FC-6400SG".

If you know the Shimano 600 part #, we can trace what year it was released. BTW the last shimano 600 was released on 1997.
