I don't have a garage so my bikes stay here (http://home.mindspring.com/~rhorne/BikeCorner.jpg) along with all my bike stuff. :D

Or, as B.B. King might sing:
You act like you to don't wanna listen,
When I'm talking to you
You think you outta be my baby,
Anything you wanna do
You must be crazy, baby,
You just gotta be out of your mind
As long as payin' I'm the bills, woman,
I'm payin' the cost to be the boss
I'll drink if I wanna,
And play a little poker too
Don't you say nothing to me,
As long as I'm taking care of you
As long as I'm working baby,
And payin' all the bills
I don't want no mouth from you,
About the way I'm supposed to live
You must be crazy, woman,
You just gotta be out of your mind
As long as I'm footin' the bills,
I'm paying the cost to be the boss
Now that you got me,
You act like you are a shamed
You don't act like my woman,
You just using my name
I tell you I'm gonna handle all the money,
And I don't wanna no back talk
'Cause if you don't like the way I'm doing,
Just pick up your things and walk
You must be crazy baby,
You just gotta be out of your mind
As long as I'm paying the bills,
I'm paying the cost to be the boss
I'll ride my bike where, when and how
I'll keep 'em in the house too
As long as I'm paying the bills,
I'm paying the cost to be the boss.

Only bike in the house is on the trainer in my office. The rest are in the garage. Of course, I did install a unit heater in the garage, "to melt the snow and ice off your car, Dear". :)

DnvrFox tells me that someone is having trouble storing their bike in the house?
Tell the wife the this is how a bike should be stored and used in the winter time!

hi there - I can't believe what I'm reading here - why haven't I met any of you all these years?
I live in Seoul now and am on my third bike here - parked inside the front door where it BELONGS - and I've had to go thru quite a bit of different scenarios riding it to work at various schools because I always insisted it be parked inside, not out. (I was teaching here for a while, now doing editing work and ride the bus.) am looking for a better bike so I can ride the longer distance and then will have to go thru another scenario so I can bring it inside to my office there.
so I'd say you only have a problem at one end? don't other people ride to work or are you all just weekenders?
at any rate, I'm female and have no problem with a bike in the house - maybe the OP should think about buying a bike for his mate and inviting her out to ride with him - if that's not feasible for whatever reason, you need to sit down and have a chat with her about priorities.
fyi, before I came overseas, I rode back in the U.S. and my bike was always by the front door there also - that's where it belongs, period, case closed, no discussion. ;)
anyway, am glad to have found this forum. will be returning stateside in about a year so can catch up along the way.

All of my bikes are in the garage, which is attached but unheated. It stays about 10 degrees warmer than the outside air. So in the winter they are below freezing point nearly all of the time. But they are tough and they can take it.
Well, there are a few old clunkers down in the basement. If I put my active bikes down there, they won't be used as much as it is pain to get them down and then back out.
I don't have a bike that is so pretty that I'm tempted to make room in the house for it.

But in defense of your wife..... I'd bet that most wives would not want a bike kept in the house, so I don't think your wife is unusual in that respect.
I wouldn't mind in the slightest. My treasured 1950s English 'Wearwell' Club bicycle permanently lives in my bedroom.

I said most women would mind..... I don't, since we have 3 in our family room.... :)

You know while I have been flippant about this in my earlier posts on this thread (most likely in an effort to get a smile out of some of you), there is a serious side to this. As an avid cyclist, it's sometimes hard to remember that not everyone shares the same fondness for the experience and tools involved in cycling. Not everyone can look at a bicycle and see the same beauty in it I do, or appreciate the simplicity of the design while seeing it as functional art. In any relationship when one person's passion has a strong impact on the other, it's probably best to find ways to keep the relationship as healthy as possible. Given the home is shared living space, it doesn't seem unreasonable to discuss and come to mutual agreement about what that shared space should look like. Now maybe if you had a bigger house you could have a room just for your stuff? ;)

After moving the bike look into insulating the garage or moving to a new home with an extra room with a door to the outside that a house-proud wife does not control

The running joke in my family... the initials of my first two names are BS. To make matters even more entertaining for those who like to take shots at me, my master's degree is an M.H.S. So, the joke goes that I can toss the Bull and Horse $--- with equal aplomb.

Hmmmm..let's see,was it the second or the third wife that said that to me?
Tough to remember. The bike stayed she went.
I now have an entire double to myself (if I explain this one everyone here will be rolling on the floor)
With the rear master bedroom for building my wood kayaks and the upstairs living room converted into my bike shop (with stands for all the finished bikes).Gal friend lives next door (I told you this was complicated)
It's good to be 65,No one asks why any more.

I used to want my house to only have house appropriate furnishings in it as opposed to Garage appropriate items, but that was when I thought a bike should cost no more than 200. dollars. Now my Trek Madone is parked right next to the TV, so I can keep an eye on it and I just decorate around it.
At bit of advice , Mid-Century modern works well with a bike, French Country just looks odd.
To the OP: Perhaps a new wife instead of the new bike?
To Valleygirl: Cathy, french country is vastly improved by a vintage Rene Herse or Alex Singer.

I had to move the bike out yesterday--I have 15 people coming over for the Giant game-we needed room in the house -so my bike spent it's first night out in the garage..It is a finished detached garage that is now a playroom for my teenage kids..I will soon go out and visit..

I was under the impression my new bike would stay in the house-at least for awhile.
My wife informed that it should be in the garage..today
What is the proper time frame, before the bike moves to the garage?
It is a detached garage and very cold out.
I think my wife is jealous--once again I will consult the experts..
Give me your opinions..
I wanted my husband's bike in the shed... until I got one of my own. Buy your wife a bike.

I put my foot down. All the bikes in my collection are in the house. The garage is only for bikes I want to sell.
Did I mention that I have a 1800+ foot basement with a daylight entrance and that's where I keep the bikes? And did I mention if I ever tried to bring one into the family room my wife would shoot me?

Got my new Sirrus last friday, brought it home and put it in the dining room. From there it has migrated to my den. So far my wife has made no comment about it but I know it it coming because we are putting the house on the market shortly. I think it adds to the 'staging' of the house, but I know I will lose this one and it will end up downstairs in the family room or cellar at some point. But, meantime I savor the time it is in the real world.

I was wondering if you'd be keeping the bike company outside.
My basement is crowded with 4 road and 2 mountain bikes circling the heating system. I have room for one more on the stand. I finally got a pully/hoist system installed in the garage. My two kids road bikes are against garage wall and my son's MTB is now aloft.
