The above spolier has yet to be fully confirmed/denied as truth, but ht provides some interesting insights to what kind of movie this is shaping up to be.

Doesn't seem to be Godzilla like i had originally thought.

My take:
A traditional monster movie (i.e. Godzilla) except instead of seeing the larger picture of how the world is reacting to the event you're instead thrust into the perspective of one of those many hapless citizens that were previously seen as toejam fodder.

While many places are stating that it's entirely shot in "handycam" style, the trailers and commercials seem to suggest that the majority of the personal events and interactions will be seen through the handycam (like the party or running down the street with the scared masses) while other plot advancing events will be seen from the tradtional 3rd person non-existent observer (there's a monster trying to break through a door, you're not going to just stand there and film your friends trying to hold the door closed are you?)
