Northern California - Share your favorite rides starting from BART stations.

Title says it all. I live right by Daly City BART. I'd love to hear about your favorite rides that start from any BART stop.

Take a BART to Berkeley From there options are unlimited. If you want to do a really long ride take it to Pleasanton then use Miners road to climb Mt. Hamilton. After that you can either ride to Fremont BART, or take a CalTrain from San Jose.

From Plesant Hill there's Diablo, or Martinez-Crocket-Pig Farm-Bears fun.

Start from Fremont Bart, ride north through Oakland hills, Grizzly Peak, then down into downtown Berkeley, and take Bart back to Fremont. Nice 50 miler.

I have two current favorite east bay rides from BART.
#1 - Around Diablo. Start at P. Hill, ride along canal trail to road that goes by Shadelands, right on that rd. Left on Ygnacio Bl. after climb and past Cal State East Bay campus make a right on road at the power station. Left at school which takes you to Clayton Rd. Right on Clayton Rd into Clayton. Right on Marsh Creek. Right on Morgan Territory. At end of Morgan Territory, right on Manning, right on Highland, Right on Camino Tassajera, right on N. Hartz Bl which turns into Danville Bl. and back to Walnut Creek BART. This is 50ish miles.
# 2 - Palmares/Calaveras - Begin at Castro Valley. Left out of parking lot. Right on the first main rooad (I think that is Redwood Rd.) Take it under the freeway to Palmares Rd. Left at end of Palmares to Niles Canyon Rd. Right on Calaveras. Calaveras down into Milpitas. then more of the road names I forget but I wend my way to Fremont Bart.
Actually you can combine these Morgan territory and Calaveras by making a left at the bottom/end of Morgan Territory go into Livermore to Stanley Bl, someway get to Fotthill Bl. which leads into Sunol. connect back with Niles Canyon and onto Calaveras.

One of the prettiest rides in any urban/suburban area. Hard to believe you are never more than a mile or two outside the city limits on this ride. The runs down Pinehurst Road and/or Redwood Road are about as good a cycling gets - fun and incredibly pretty.

From Orinda BART: Head north-ish on the main road outside the station (it's called Camino Pablo, but good luck finding a sign that says so.)

Turn left onto Wildcat Canyon, climb (about 2 miles) a beautiful road to Tilden Park. Stay on Wildcat Canyon all the way to the end of the park, turn left (uphill) onto Grizzly Peak Blvd.

You are on or near the ridge top - look to the right for views of the Bay through the houses. Roughly 4 miles of steady climbing (usually not very steep, but continuous) brings you to a fantastic overlook view on the right that takes in much of SF Bay - odds are you will be sharing the view with several motorcyclists. A tad further (easy) takes you to the top - begin fun descent. Go straight past Claremont/Fish Ranch Rd. intersection (four-way stop), begin rolling section. At T-intersection, turn left onto Skyline Blvd. (You are entering the area where the big 1991 Oakland Hills fire ran wild.) Mostly down a couple miles to Pinehhurst Road - the roadway gets a whole lot wider at the Pinehurst junction, and roads come in from five different directions - Pinehurst is the "gentle left" that immediately drops off downward.

From here, you have a choice:

Shorter option: left on Pinehurst, begin twisty, narrow descent, followed by much straighter, much less steep but continuous downhill to Canyon Road - turn left. Go over small hill, drop into Moraga, turn left on Moraga Way (tons of amenities at or near this intersection, including a Safeway, a deli, a pizza place, several gas stations, and a Jack-in-the-Box). Stay on Moraga Way up, over and down a fairly gentle hill back to Orinda BART. This is 27 or so miles (I think).

Longer option: stay straight on Skyline (the most level of the options) past Pinehurst. It's a rolling/trending up road that goes past the Chabot Observatory/Science Center. Shortly past that, top out and prepare for some screaming fun descending. (after the near-180 degree left hander, start slowing at the next right-hander, as there is a traffic light coming up fast.) Turn left at the first traffic light to stay on Skyline, continue descent (dead straight at this point) and turn left again at the next traffic light onto Redwood Road. Continue screamin' dscent on a curvy but not real technical road that is absolutely gorgeous. Turn left on Pinehurst, begin 1 mile (plus a hair) climb (mostly not too bad - a couple short piches you could do without), followed by a 1+ mile twisty descent. Turn right onto Canyon Road. Go over small hill, drop into Moraga, turn left on Moraga Way (tons of amenities at or near this intersection, including a Safeway, a deli, a pizza place, several gas stations, and a Jack-in-the-Box). Stay on Moraga Way up, over and down a fairly gentle hill back to Orinda BART. This version is about 32 or 33 miles, if memory serves

Enjoy. You'll want to do this one more than once, especially on clear days. But cloudy/foggy days have their charm here, too.
