Triathlon - Cold Weather, running tights, and errr....well...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I suppose there is no easy way to ask this. I'm newish to running, especially in the cold. Received a pair of UnderArmor cold weather gear tights for Christmas. I know cycling clothes, not running attire. So are these inteneded to be used sans undergarment, as would a pair of cycling tights? There, I asked it.

yes
- you can wear over your cycling shorts for warmth also.
BUT, you might at least think about wearing some briefs.
My training partner and I ran 15 plus backroad miles last Saturday. I couldn't find my tights so ran in just my tri-shorts. 35F dropped to 25F and sleet during the run. My very important "equipment" was nearly frozen on the return run into a 20mph headwind with sleet and freezing rain. A warm shower did not immediately provide relief, either.
Everything worked out fine, though. All's well that ends well, but next time I am wearing at least one more layer in the critical areas. I don't mind frozen sleet sticking to my legs eyebrows and running shell, but I draw the line at frostbit "equipment."

Briefs good. Something small and supportive - tangas and the like. There's nothing worse than vexed tackle...

Thanks gents, and with that said, the briefs have it!

Check out running stores. There are running specific "bikini" style briefs that keep your warm in the right places and also don't cause irratation when dampe from sweat.

irratation when damp from sweat.
ewwww
BTW, I wear some bikini briefs for under running gear, and only for under running gear.

So NOW I have to walk into a store and ask for bikini briefs? What kind of sport have I gotten myself into?:)

Have you started shaving your legs yet? :)

Craft makes nice wind shield boxers...I use em when I run on nasty days, or not so nasty. IMOCraft makes some terrific base products.

If asking for bikini's bothers you just get a pair of compression shorts. They're not as thick as tri-shorts but they stay in place and breeth well. I've gotten to where I'll wear them under my shorts to avoid chaffing.
