Classic & Vintage - Calling Scapin owners
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just bought one, an '85 made from Columbus Aelle.
Who out there owns one? What do you think (haven't ridden mine yet, as it needs a little work, but not much)? I know that Aelle was "down-market" material compared to SLX, etc. ... what was the story with Scapin using Aelle in framesets during this period (I've seen a couple of others for sale)?

i've an SLX one.. it's very nicely made..
there's really not much info regarding them, although they are still in the business of making bicycles
there are a couple earlier catalogs up on
the '83 literature lists a couple models including bikes from Columbus SL and Zeta and some cool town and ladies versions
I own a 1974 SL frame. Very nicely manufactured and an extremely nice ride, though the models from this period are very plain compared to the mid-1980s models, which are the most common. It was my main ride for about 15 years.
Aelle was a simply a lower cost tubeset made from materials that were more suited to mass manufacturing, thus permitting manufacturers to hit a lower price point for a club racer model and still maintain the prestige of a Columbus tubed frame.
