General Cycling Discussion - Water-proof socks

I've recommended Porrell Drys to other forum members under "Commuting" and "Winter Riding", but after yesterdays ride, my Porrell Drys weren't!

I'm not sure if this was a failure of the sock, or if water ran down my leg and into the sock. I was wearung neoprene shoe covers and bibtights, but the bibtights went over the sock, so teoreticall water should have run down the outside of the sock.

Does anyone know of any waterproof socks that keep your feet dry even thru the worst puddles and storms?

This is a common problem with so-called waterproof gear. Most of it actually isn't because the designers don't understand that cyclists will ride in much heavier rain than they think.

The suggestion of plastic bags will probably work. My own solution would be to just cop the wet feet while you are actually riding, and have a dry pair of socks to change into when you get to your destination. After all, if being wet was that bad, none of us would shower :eek:

I highly recommend Seal Skinz. Pretty reasonable and they work well without being bulky. Most outdoor stores like REI or Hudson Trail Outfitters should carry them.

Skin is waterproof, so as long as it's not too cold, I don't bother with waterproofing of my legs and feet. In rain, I only cover the top half with a waterproof jacket.
