Advocacy & Safety - the ripper2 bmx, or "w" helmet

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

anybody know about this lid? apparently designed to withstand several impacts, and offer far superior protection to anything else under the sun, except for maybe not crashing or getting hit by a car. Not very aerodynamic, but im mostly a hipster, traffic dodger anyway, and am still waiting for the velodrome to be built here in Chiapas (where i would not wear a helmet anyway, right?). I do often break 60kmh on my fixie, though, and deal with speeding and aggressive motorists daily.
I am seriously considering buying one, anybody know where I can get it?

hmm...
if you are going to bother using such a horrid looking skull cap, you should at least consider the full face variety - since you are already going to look geek, might as well go all the way !
I wear a full face bmx/downhill helmet. really light weight, and will hopefully protect my face when i get rubbed by a cager.

personally, i find the multi-winged, super aerodynamic, rocket jetstream bike helmets with grooves and spikes out the back going for 1 to 2 hundred bucks ALOT uglier. these just look like a helmet.

Doesn't look like much difference between this and the skater-style helmets. Skater helmets were never constructed of EPS, but rather a type of elastomeric padding probably similar to the Zorbium foam TW uses (basically thick rubber that springs back slowly). My opinion is that these types of helmets will definitely protect better than typical bike helmets, and I do see ppl wearing them--mostly BMXers and MTBers. Full face helmets would be even better since a lot of bike falls involve face plants.

Go with the full dirt bike helmet, keep you REAL safe, and everyone will think you're really cool!

The only major accident I've had I shouted "NOT THE FACE!!!" in my mind as I went down.... It wasn't too bad, but protection would have been VERY nice.
