I will probably be in Myrtle Beach with my wife on business (hers, not mine) on Jan 17th (I should have most of the daylight open for riding). Any Myrtle Beachers want to suggest a decent road ride in Myrtle Beach proper? Maybe meet up for a ride? I am *NOT* a racer, but more a rambling clyde. I am very comfortable with rides around 20+ miles (longest ride was 45 miles and that wasn't bad) but with the few "hills" at the beach, I can go further. My biggest concern is tourist traffic.

Not much tourist traffic in January.

It just so happens I'm in Myrtle Beach right now, visiting family. My bike has been sitting unused for almost two weeks. This is partly because it's been so cold, but I never have trouble getting motivated to ride at home in Virginia when it's colder. This is not a bike friendly environment! At best it's boring, at worst I have to contend with drunken yahoos throwing beer bottles.

When I do ride here, it's usually up and down the whole of 17 Business from Garden City to the north end of North Myrtle Beach. I poke through neighborhoods occasionally. I'd like to find some more interesting routes too.

That is what I have found, too - rather boring, but it is something constructive to do while my wife is away at her meetings. When I rode some there a couple of summers ago, I usually had a roadie or two that I'd find to chase that would make thing better. I'm thinking of riding Ocean Blvd (and 17 where the blvd ends) up to Cherry Grove and maybe as far south as Myrtle Beach. Depends on weather and conditions.

I will be in MB for business tomorrow (Sunday) through Wednesday. I was going to bring my bike. I am just getting into cycling.

Any other ideas as to riding in MB? Or should I just leave the bike at home?

Go ahead and bring it. This is a quiet time of year and during the week it'll be even quieter. You'll be able to find plenty of places to ride, and if you're from a hilly area, the flats will be a nice break.

I will be staying at Beach Cove in North Myrtle. I am planning on riding up Ocean Blvd to Cherry Grove and back, maybe on down to Myrtle Beach. Being a clyde, I enjoy the lack of hills. If you see a fat guy riding a black and white Fuji, wave!

I am in North MB at Breakers.

Likewise, if you see a fat guy on a yellow and black fuji. Give a wave.

If you are here now (I leave Wednesday) and would like to get together - shoot me an e-mail. kyhokie@gmail.com (that comes my my phone).

I will be getting in late Wednesday evening. Looks like cold rain on Thursday and I have ZIP for rain gear, so maybe I'll be able to get some miles in Friday while my wife shops.

True to forecasts, it was wet today (drove into sleet last night). Went down to the exercise room in the condo and spun for about 30 minutes (boring and unnatural) while my wife did her treadmill thing. Legs feel nice a loose now - hopefully I'll have a good ride tomorrow.
