My name is Tony. I live in Covina and can't seem to find any good rides or clubs in the San Gabriel Valley. Anyone interested in starting some training/recreational rides or a club? Also, who are you? Where do you ride? Etc. Pics are nice too.

Well, hello there. :D Welcome, Tony. We have lots of pic threads. But as for riding, lots of rides take place here. You should come out and join. What kind of rides are you looking for? Have you heard of SFVBC?

I usually ride in San Gabriel Valley (SG River to Seal Beach, SGV mountains etc), but wouldn't mind visiting for a ride. Let me know when and where. I'm looking for moderate training rides (20-30 mi rides) right now as I'm just getting off winter break. Getting ready for Tour de Palm Springs and Solvang in March.

We can also ride here if you want to visit. The San Gabriel river ride to Seal Beach is about 30 miles from Azusa. Lots of scenery.

Regards,

Tony

Alice,

I joined the Covina club. Not impressed. Showed up to ride. No one showed. Rode by myself. They like riding the moderate to tough mountain rides too much. Not much variety. And the website.....well lets say it leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks,

Tony

Don't you encourage her! :p

Alice, darling dear, I KNOW where SGV is and I ride there all the time, as do the SFVBC. Surely, Tony can drive to CSUN if he wants to join the club OR he can join on the various rides we/they do, starting out of Encanto Park. Now, stop using my expression before I have to hurt you (well, find you first...but then I'd hurt you!)

Tony - I've ridden SGRT to Seal Beach and back many times. If you look through the So Cal threads (time consuming, I know) you will see threads on past Beach rides we did last year. There is always an opportunity to ride that and you could even organize a ride and we'd join. Oh, and have you been up GMR? :)

Since you live in the San Gabriel Valley have you thought of jumping in the Montrose pack ride Sat mornings?

I'd love to visit CSUN. Do you have a website for SFVBC where I can get ride info?

I've done Montrose. It's fun. I plan on joining in again soon. I also train at the Rosebowl alot. The other riders are great motivators.

Tony I ride short/moderate rides like you are speaking of on the SGRT fairly often as I live near by. I generally ride with a couple guys from a LBS.

Love the photo jp. Not much night riding till summer. Thanks for the SFVBC link. I think I will join in one the rides soon. I would like to keep the SGV thread open for just this reason. In order to ride with SFVBC, I have to travel about 50 miles to visit. Which I don't mind, but I want some local rides and riders. Of course you are ALL welcomed to come to this side of town for a ride too.

Alice, I'm hitting the SGR tomorrow morning. Leaving from the dam at 9am. Email me if you're interested. Don't know how far I'm going. Whatever feels good : )

There's a ride that leaves on Saturdays at 7:30am..

Grant Rea Park
600 Rea Dr. Montebello, CA 90640 (Right off Beverly Blvd)

Just to let you know that it's a extremely fast paced group but a great group of riders and we're usually on the SG River...

Keep an eye on this regional forum as rides get planned and posted all the time including Angeles Crest, SGRT, etc. www.sfvbc.org is worth the trip quite often. I still drive out there from Pasadena all the time.

If you're into racing, a new grassroots team www.liquidcycling.com seems to be centralized in Pasadena.

Thanks tbrown. I don't think I'm ready for that yet, but will put it on my calendar. It sounds like fun. I will definitely go soon, once I put some miles on my legs.

9am at the dam. Hmmm, that's my kind of start time! Are you starting at the Equestrian staging place north of the dam, (south of Encanto Park), or the Nature Station?

socaltony

9am at the south side of the dam, on Arrow Hwy. Look for the red Toyota Tacoma. Yeah, I'm a bit lazy this time of year. Just starting get miles on my legs this time of year. Hope to see someone from this thread there.

hey tony,

if you're looking for something more interesting than flats, there's a gruppetto that leaves encanto park on sunday at 8 am and they head out to the top of gmr, and sometimes they go down little gmr to the cafe reload and climb up again and back down big gmr. you get to climb a bit-great work out.

If you haven't lived in so cal for at least 20+ years, you have no idea how good the air now..

The smog was so bad, that you could not see the mountains, i.e Baldy from Foothill Blvd.. A nice thick blanket of smog..

See, it's a play on the theme of SGV vs. Westside/Southbay bike gangs and using the Westside Story... oh never mind.:p

Didn't we have the discussion in the Long ass thread about musicals and my particular opinion?

There's a ride every Saturday starting at Stan's Monrovia Bikes (Myrtle, just north of Huntington/210) - it's a moderate ride to So.Pas and then back - it splits off into two groups so you can hammer with the first group or hang with the second. It's a nice, easy ride mostly on Huntington, etc. - might want to give the shop a call during the week and talk to Stan and get more details. I only rode with them once, but seems like a decent ride.

I'd love to join you on SGRT but unfortunately I just got back in from Seattle at 2am and have to replace the brakes on one of the cars before I head out again at noon - have a great time!

They also have a short coffee shop ride, starting from Stan's shop, and in many instances, a hammer fest across Huntington to So. Pas. When some of the former TPB members come along, they may take an extended "A" option of the ride, which goes out to Tujunga, then comes back via Verdugo Hills, then back to Monrovia. Fun ride, with the exception of the bump on Foohtill (from Oak Grove).

Is my opinion relevent? Be clear if it's the stage or movie version...

We sort of played that one (Westside Story) out already with the Commuters VS...

Now we're doing The Wild Ones...you know...Brando/bikers

"What are you rebelling against?"
"What have you got?"

merider1
12-30-07, 12:52 PM
If you did, either I didn't read it, or didn't pay attention to it. Is your opinion relevant to this instance of my accurately potraying the SVG vs. WS/SB/M row with Westside Story? You'd prefer Beat It by Michael Jackson? More MTV, less Broadway?

How about none of the above? :D

They do some rides on the SGRT also. I've not ridden with them but I have stopped and chatted with some of the riders. They have a yahoo group...
