Hey guys,
After considerable thinking, I’ve decided to permanently end posting in the So Cal Region. I’m someone who has consistently received both positive and negative attention on a regular basis, and due to the disruption from the negative attention, my not presence not being felt on here is the only solution that brings me peace of mind. I’ll be logging onto Bikeforums.net to read the wonderful information that can be found on this website. There are many wonderful members who provide a myriad of insightful knowledge, advice and humor from all over the world who log on here regularly. I will continue to read (but not post in) the many forums on Bikeforums.net. I will also still be checking PMs and if anyone wishes to contact me, I’ll respond via PM only. To all the riders and friends I’ve met in the past two years, you know where to find me, and I look forward to future rides and experiences with each and every one of you.

Hmmm...I ride through GP commuting home, however, I usually roll through about 3:55-4:05pm. I don't think I wanna wait around for 2-1/2 hours, though. But, I do wanna subscribe to this thread :D

I'm thinking this would be more pleasant in the spring, summer and fall months. This winter stuff is annoying with the wind and rain and chill. Also daytime rides to tour the park paths proper. You know, Hollywood sign and all. GP is one of my favorite LA places. I lived just down from the Greek Theater for a time and spent a lot of time hiking the trails up there.
 If you want to sit indoors in January and sip a hot tottie, go right ahead, but as for pleasant, if one is bundled up enough, the cold isn't so bad and the ride is great.

Nope, you sure didn't.

Only if it's 50% whiskey will I consider sitting all January drinking hot totties. That's one fine drink if prepared properly. In fact, I could use one right now considering I can't talk.:( I'll probably confine my January riding to spotty weekdays and weekends. If there's a warm spell, I'll consider the GF night ride with y'alls.
Who or what is a tottie?
Usually lemon juice, tea, honey, whiskey, nice and hot. Consumed by January slackers with nasty head colds.

Wuss.
I rode a double century with a horrific chest cold last March. I've never quite gotten my breathing back to normal, but I finished the ride, damnit!

I'll give it a go! Close enough to my casa for now. You Californians need to harden up though. 50 degrees isn't really all that cold.

now I have a goal for 2008 - a night ride.
I never liked riding when it is dark outside; I do come back from work sometimes when it getting dark.
I can't see my heartbeat, speed, cadance, etc. oh, and it hard to take photos.
Beyond that, I don't see the rode hazard as good, but I ssume a 200l (or two) should solve this problem?!

The weather isn't looking good for this Thursday. Hopefully the forecast is wrong.
The first in a series of potent weather systems is expected to bring
rain... possibly heavy at times... to areas north of Point
Conception on Thursday... spreading into Ventura and Los Angeles
counties late in the day. A second and possibly more potent
weather system is expected to spread rapidly into the region on
Friday... bringing even heavier precipitation and stronger winds. A
third weather system could bring additional rainfall and strong
winds to the region late Saturday night into Sunday.

Okay, so Joel, Shai and Bill are in if one remembers how to drive, one reaches his new year goal by the 3rd of January and one is unemployed. I'll put you all on the list. :D
As for the weather, rain cancels as does extreme cold, so I'll let you guys know on Thursday. If bad weather arrives, the ride will start back up next week.

High maintenance, for sure. :p By the way, since I'm too out of shape to attempt the Mt. Wilson ride tomorrow, I'm headed over to GP and up to the observatory and around. I'm going to attempt the whole loop even if there are signs saying not to. I can't imagine anyone is going to police the place on the 1st. I want to scout it out for Thrusday and see realistically what can be completed.

Don't you remember on Saturday when I was complaining about how my back was hurting and I was struggling and...

All that was preparing you for this ride! In all seriousness, the group (I'm told) is so large and diverse, you will have plenty of company at whatever pace you choose. But if you'd rather be anti-social, I understand. :p

 It has nothing to do with being antisocial. I just don't want to start the new year out suffering.
merider1
12-31-07, 01:28 PM
How would riding up at your own pace be suffering? You'll probably end up doing as many miles around GP that day, many of which are going uphill. So what's the difference other than the obvious one that you don't like people?
No, silly. It's that I don't like you that I'm not coming. You, you, you...just you.
The rest I like and will miss terribly. :D

Interested, but probably not able to join in for a few weeks:
This past Saturday night someone stole the battery pack to my Dinotte lighting system off my locked bike. I do have a second battery, but unfortunately the now-stolen pack had the splitter cable attached to it. F*ckers. =/

I'm starting at 9:30am in Sherman Oaks (from my place), Mark. I have one person joining and he's meeting me at my place. You are welcome to join if you'd like. We are going at our own sweet, NY's Day pace. :D If you want to meet us in Griffith Park, we'll be arriving around 10:15ish. PM me if you want to join and I'll send you my cell number. :)
