Southern California - Hill Intervals

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a bunch of hill intervals, on New Port Coast, scheduled for tomorrow. It's one of those things that once I start doing I don't mind doing it, but it takes some motivation to drag my self out of bed and on the bike in the morning.
Sunday should be fun thought, if I am feeling up to it (getting over a cold) Como street and then extend the ride to three and a half hours.
No real point to this thread. Just procrastinating.

Up and down New Port Coast at different intensities: 5x8m in zone3/4, and 5x8m in zone 2. Thank God for Ipod. :D
what is your current time up NPC?
Two different measurements: base to green electrical boxes at the very apex of NPC and base to the top of Vista Ridge...
I know my best effort up NPC (not including Vista Ridge) is either ~8:25 (last year... and I am old so my memory is failing)

From the bottom to the light at the top around 8-9 minutes. I am not really going all out thought, as I mentioned I climb it in specific zones. I would love to do longer climbs, but this is the only hill in the area that is long enough. :(

Hill intervals are great. The other day my training parter had me doing all out hill sprints in my 53/17. Theres no better feeling that climbing a steep hill at over 20mph, even if it's only for a few seconds.

This last Thursday was my fourth week in a row of Newport Coast repeats. Doing more of "form" repeats than all out right now. I always dread the workout but always glad I did it. Maybe I'll see you at Como on Sunday.

Yep same here.
Hi,
I rode up Newport Coast once yesterday. :o
Even though I like to climb, I have never been able to bring myself to do hill repeats on Newport Coast. :(
I used to do hill repeats up Spyglass starting on Marguerite back in the 1980s. Now I just do short intervals on the hill in my neighborhood. Oh to be young and energetic again.

I knew some people in NorCal taht are at least twice my age that can ride me in to the ground. Just saying... ;)
Anyway ride was fun, glad I did it. Although still glad I had my IPOD with some good music in my playlist. Going up and down the same hill 10 times in a row is kind of boring. The sucky part came when I tried to download the data from my bike computer, and it got corrupted. So no data to look at. :(
