so, reading this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=374278) had me thinking.

some people were amazed (and maybe even a bit dismayed?) by the number of bikes Siu Blue Wind has. and we won't even go into PhilThee's brother-in-law.

and my thought was, what other things might folks collect obsessively? or maybe "obsessively" isn't the right word. 12 bikes doesn't seem that obsessive to me. i'm halfway there.

but what kind of things do you have "a lot of" (that aren't bikes) that make people look a bit askance?

(i know i'm probably going to get some materialism is evil comments)

i'll give some of my own to start:

over 2,000 books (i need more shelf space). over 2,000 comic books (which really isn't a lot, but to non-comic book people it seems like a lot). and over 30 computers, not counting parts that could be assembled (over 30 Macs, and i've never counted the Wintel boxes).

so, share your world record lawn gnome collection! or whatever...

Do you have an old 512 mac game called "alternate reality"? I've been hanging onto the computer, waiting for the disk to show up somewhere....

As to your question... I have a entire closet devoted to shoes.

I have three routers (the woodworking kind). My original cheap Black and Decker, which has performed surprisingly well, a 3 1/4 HP Hitachi in a router table, and a 1 1/2 HP Porter-Cable with both a fixed base and a plunge base.

We collect all things rat & mouse (except Mickey, that's a whole 'nother addiction) at last count more than 2 years ago we had over 3500 different pieces. We add new items at the low assumed average rate of about five new different pieces a week. We have everything from xmas ornaments, First Day Covers, nutsuki, original watercolor art, Charming Tails, and even some tramp art and chocolate.

It's not a collection, it's an obsession. :)

I'm still in denial over how many power tools I have .... and rarely use. I refuse to count them.

I used to collect hockey cards, however 15 years ago I sold them all to come up with a down-payment for our first house. I had a nice collection :(

1600 rounds of Bulgarian 7.62mm x 54r ammunition for my SVT-40 and Mosin-Nagant 91/30.

750 rounds of 7.92mm x 57mm ammunition for my Karabiner K98.

650 rounds of Czech 7.62mm x 39mm ammunition for my Yugoslavian AK-47 M90.

Three road bikes and one beater mountain bike.

You need to buy some more x39.

And by the way, that's very cool that you have an SVT 40. Although, it's useless without pics.:D

I had 1500 rounds at the beginning of the summer, but that supply has dwindled considerably for reasons unknown. :D

Reasons are not unknown. 7 dollars per box for x39 at a department store, that will do it. I sure miss the days of 70 bucks per thousand. For me it's just meant more .308 since it's easier to reload since I can keep the shells by turning off my gas system. Only shot 20 x39's last range trip. I've also been shooting more .22. I figure my SKS D is my most reliable and effective all purpose *social* gun, so I keep plenty of ammo for it.

Make sure to post pics when you get that camera. And maybe a vid too if it does that.:D

At one point, I had 10 SLR camera bodies. Now it's down to 6.

At another point, I had 30 camera lenses. Now it's down to 20.

And who knows how many negatives and slides I've got stashed away?

The SVT-40 is my conversation piece when I go to the range, as most people have never seen a semi-auto from WWII.

A short film illustrating the effects of a 7.62mm x 54r round on a watermelon or grapefruit is something I've wanted to do for a while. :)

I have. To name a few, Garands, 1911's, Browning High Power's, Luger's, P38's, TT 33's, and of course the full auto's like burp guns, grease guns, Thompson's, BAR's 1919's, MG34's, but I go to the craziest range in south east Michigan.

I think you mean most people have never seen a Russian semi auto from WWII.;)

Actually, around here at least, M1 Garands are some of the most battle rifles you see at the range, and there are plenty of M1 Carbines around too.

piffle. i'm going on 13 years of undergrad... mostly full-time.

the multiple bike thing really isn't a big deal to me. but maybe that's because i know people who have that many cars. one of my friends doesn't actually know how many cars he owns... after that, 60 bikes doesn't seem that crazy.

.22's... Lots and lots of .22's More than I care to admit to but many many and tons of Marlin 60 & variants

Somebody called me a 'rimfire weenie' but after he looked over my collection I was renamed, 'rimfire mafia' oh and 4 bikes

Wife gave away all the extra books last year... I fear one of the Jamis Coda's might go so I'm watching her like a hawk..... (She'll do it when I'm out on a trip I'll wager!)

I am down to to 6 or 8 cameras, as I have been selling off gear for the last year or so. Still have about 10 lenses though.
Two revolvers, two rifles, two shotguns. And to think that at one time, my wife had absolutely no interest in shooting.
Thousands upon thousands of photos. Not digital, but actual prints, and probably twice as many negs and slides. No hope in ever sorting them out either.
Books. Photography, art, psychology and a bunch of rare/expensive ones that I snuck out of my mum's home when she died, because her redneck husband wouldn't know what to do with a book anyway. I don't care about the monetary value, I just wanted them because they belonged to my mum.
Oh, seven or eight bikes, four kids and three dogs.

Where do I start?

Four bench lathes and one bowl lathe, plus a shop full of tools.

Three guitars, A tenor recorder, An alto recorder and four or so soprano recorders, an alto sax, two mandolins assorted and sundry rhythm instruments, three fiddles (not being used) two omni chords, and a mando banjo.

I'm sure I can't compete with a lot of you regarding musical cd's, they just don't count. ;)
