This is one area I really do not know much about, I cannot tell what models were better then others or how old they are or what kind of power they generate. Is there an online resource that describes the differences between a JOS Type "S" or Type "U". I am building up a lighting setup and I was planning on using a beautiful old headlight but possibly with a new dynamo... of course I would rather use an old one if they work well.
any insight would be helpful!

I like the Union generator sets. They seem to give good voltage/light at low speeds & haven't given me any trouble. Don

I'm not an expert, but I do use dynamos and have for many years. They are all 6v/3w units. I think you'd do fine with the JOS generators. One might speculate that there would be less resistance in with a newer Union generator. However, I don't think there is any comparative analysis on the subject.
