You will also be accepted into the singlespeed/fixie culture and marked as intelligent, environmentally conscious, and way more badass than those kids in traffic.

well thanks for clearing that up, the end of that sentence was grammatically ambiguous and left me with a big "WTF?" feeling. the person that wrote that can't write a short snippet of a review to save his life.

my first thought of someone riding a mass produced mountain bike brand's rendition of a track bike built for the streets is probably not going to be a positive one... hey! that's just me. maybe they're an intelligent desk worker with a knack for corporate culture and a business degree, who am i to judge?

He's a winner though, no doubt about that:

So I’m changing tact on what I want to do with this blog. I’m going to take on a new handle for how I will be known. So the only people that will know that I am in fact ‘Manifold Man’ will be my friends, family, and those of you who are aware of my method or marketing in the city in which I live. It shouldn’t be too hard for those intrigued enough to figure out first where I am living, and second what it is that I do to get my name out there. So this is only the beginning. If you like or dislike what I’m doing, let me know. I would really appreciate feedback with my reviews, my thoughts, and any of my writing. Also I will try to post corrections as I become aware of any errors that I make in whatever I post.

It Begins:

"If you live in the suburbs, a single speed bike is what you want. Allowing minimal maintenance, clean looks, and is fast as hell; you’ll be flying past cars as you are up and in the coffee house before the honeys are even there to holler at. The Gary Fisher Triton is one sweet bicycle, sporting Bontrager crap components, and bullhorn style handlebars, flip-flop hub that lets you go from either single speed to fixed gear, or have a different gear ratio on both sides. This bike will get you laid. You will also be accepted into teh singlespeed/fixie culture and marked as hip, trendy, and way more badass than those kids in traffic."

The bike ain't so horrible but the copy for the frame description on the
Fisher site reads:

"Fisher VS full cromoly horizontal drops, fender and rack mounts"
http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/model/triton

Ok fender and rack mounts are good, but what are horizontal drop[out?]s
and thanks for the chromo but what about other tubing attributes--butting?
For 600 some odd bucks it seems you could do worse (or better with a Flite 100),
but could they get some better info?

Mani, I don't think any of the people in here are any different than the dozens you interviewed regarding fixed gear bikes. They dis as anyone you spoke with face to face would have, because of the hype you attempted/failed to generate with your exciting copy.

What's wrong with that bike?

By the time I had my $350 Kilo TT setup the way I wanted it my total out the door cost was $600+.

Sometimes I don't understand the hipster/fixie mentality.

Oh, and I rock both a front and rear brake.

i actually saw one of those the other day, the thinggie on the handlebars goes around, it looks like it's a place to put your lights/bell/speed-o-meter.

I know that no one really cares, but i thought it was neat-o.

props for even riding a bike at all, but getting hyped on "bike culture" and trying to be "accepted in the fixie/singlespeed community" rings as superficial. Ride your bike because you like riding your bike, everything else is secondary. Don't ride your bike because you're in love with the image of it.

who are you to tell someone else why they should ride a bike? some people ride bikes cause it's cool right now. some people ride cause they can't afford a car and/or hate public transpo. some people ride cause they got a DUI. some people ride for fitness. some people ride for the environment. some people ride cause it's fun. in the end, everyone who's riding a bike isn't driving an SUV so who cares why they're doing it?

Yeah, really. I guess I'd rather live in a world where people show off by riding in unconventional manners rather than trying to buy the bigger vehicle.

Now I'm all morally confused...

you're right in a lot of ways, but at the same time, not everyone riding a bike isn't driving an suv. I suppose i was more just musing personal opinion than pass any sort of judgment.
