Cyclocross - old touring frame w/ canti studs a good candidate for cx bike?

So I picked up a touring frame from a pawn shop a while back, but never ended up doing anything with it. Its relatively lightweight lugged steel and has canti studs, but was originally meant for 27" wheels. I guess my question is whether or not I could use 700c wheels and canti brakes even though the frame is intended for 27" wheels. I would mock it up if I could but don't have immediate access to the frame wheels and brakes.

The mechanics forum might also be a good place to ask this question. I go single-tracking on my touring frame after putting on 700 x 38s or 43s. Some one with more knowledge then I can advise if you frame has enough ground clearance.

was your frame originally meant for 700c wheels though?
I haven't even thought about ground clearance yet. I am initially thinking about if the brakes will work.

I've built a SS CX out of an 80's tourer, the canti's should work fine. One thing to mention, I tried to put some shorty 4's on it and they didn't work. The bosses are too close together for modern brakes. Use some old MTB canti's and you will be fine w/700's.
