It doesn't matter if you're bragging, complaining or jus' sayin'. It's a New Year's tradition on this forum to report how many miles you rode in 2007. It's interesting if you also estimate miles traveled by car, bus, plane, walking or any other means.

Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year! :)

On my bikes, I did 3250 miles. That's a lot less than usual because I was unable to ride for 16 weeks at the beginning of the year (bad knee). Still, 90.3 miles per week isn't bad for a 52 year old gimpo, is it?

I rode on intercity buses 5200 miles in 2007. I used city buses about once a month, but 3 or 4 times a week (or more) when I wasn't able to ride last winter. I drove about 100 miles (other people's cars, since I don't have one). I rode as a passenger in cars a lot when I was hurt, also to visit a friend in jail. I walked a lot, but I don't know how many miles. I try to walk at least 10 miles a week just to balance the muscles in my legs.

I rode a total of 6,750 kilometres this year. In January, I set out a goal of 5,000 kilometres for the year, so I accomplished this goal quite nicely. I haven't yet determined next year's cycling goal. I also did a fair amount of walking, but I have no idea how much. Driving is way down and I used less than half as much fuel this year as last year.

Airplane: about 11,500 kms (7145 miles)

Train: about 1,600 kms (1000 miles)

Boat: about 50 kms (80 miles)

According to my best calculations, I did between 4100 to 4200 miles in '07. I'm not sure if I'll hit that number in '08, since 3000 to 3500 miles a year seemed more enjoyable to my body. Time will tell.

I started commuting in June (the 10th) and quit for the winter on about the middle of November. Throw in a week tour and lots of pleasure riding and I am right at 2000 miles (1985 to be exact). God only knows how many car miles, but I am happy with the nearly 400 miles/month of commuting. First year of serious cycling by the way. I've got the "okay' for a new bike this spring and am pretty much decided on a Jamis Aurora :O)

Cheers.

Biked to work 152 days, public transit 50 days, car 1 day. Last year I rode to work 170 days but there were more ice/snow days this year and I avoid those.

My commute is 16 km/10 miles round trip and sometimes 14 miles if I go to the other site, so I average about 11commuting miles/workday, so total 1600 of commuting. I do some errands by bike, but mostly within a mile of home, and occasional 20-30 mile jaunts of recreational biking, so a little over 2000 miles/3200km all told.

I had a bike computer a few years ago but I havent bothered to get a new one recently.

7,500 bicycle miles for the year.

0 miles personal auto

49 miles in a U-haul truck

The rest were on the bus or car-pooling with others to rides... no idea how many miles.

Roughly 3200 on the bike(s).

Far too many in a car--6,000 or so, but that includes a couple of trips to Portland OR, one trip to the Cariboo-Chilcotin in BC, and one trip to Northern California.

Walking--I've actually walked quite a bit lately, as I'm also trying to vary the routine.

It would have been more, but as in your case, I could not ride for a few weeks due to injured knees, only at the end of the year rather than the beginning. My total for this December is 23 km. :(

I travelled nontrivial distances on buses, cars and planes, but bike has the top mileage.

The circumference of the earth is 40075 kms at the equator. When I added up all the kilometers I've covered this year by various methods of transportation ... I'm at about 44,700. I'm done my first lap, and I've started a second! :D

Bicycle miles=no clue...none of my bikes have computers/odometers
Truck Miles=43,279 (39,650 for business)(3629 for personal)
Flying=No clue..probably around 2,000 only took a couple of short business trips this year.
Walking=no clue...no pedometer but I usually walk at least 2 miles a day at work.
Other vehicles=however many on the tractor it takes to mow the hay fields 4 times:p

That's a lot of miles! and an interesting comparison to the girth of the earth. I've probably come close to circling the earth in the last five years of riding. I know you've put in a lot of miles on tours and extreme races and rides. I do it more in dribs and drabs of 5 or 10 miles per trip. (I think the farthest I've been from home on my bike is only about 40 miles.) But those short trips add up fast if you're riding pretty much every day of the year, like I do.

As of Saturday, December 29th, I have ridden 2200 miles. My goal for the year was 1500.

For 08, I am having a Surly LHT built so I can devote time to commuting to work a few days a
week, 60 miles round trip. This should definitely bring up my mileage and lower my dependency on
the automobile.

4325 miles by bike, with two days to go. My BikeJournal profile (http://www.bikejournal.com/profiles.asp?rname=brucew&public=1) and ride log (http://www.bikejournal.com/journal_public.asp?rname=brucew).

Zero miles driving a car.

About 450 miles by car to/from vacation destinations. About 50 miles by car around town.

I rode the bus once. About two miles to the LBS to pick up my new bike.

bike: about 2,000 since June. very little before that
my car: about 6,000
other people's cars: about 2,000 (we traveled a lot this year)
walking: a lot
long distance plane/train: none
local train/bus: about 1,000

Next year I'm hoping to switch the numbers between car and bike. There will be no local transit, either, so all my miles will be car/bike/walking.

Almost 4,000km on the bikes, and it would have been more barring nasty bike-car argument in October.

Probably another 1,000 on public transport and a lot less than that in various rental cars.

If it wasn't for the miles in planes I'd be pretty damn proud of my carbon footprint.

Nothing lasting, but car picked the bit of the road I was on to make a left turn. I braked, and flipped over the handlebars, and that was it for getting my hands forward to reach handlebars, or putting weight on an injured shoulder. Now I'm finally strong enough to ride, but there's snow on the ground and I don't want to risk it.

Roll on spring.

3711.7 Miles...But I became car lite..sorta. When I realized that I was putting four hundred miles per month on the bike and two hundred or less on the truck, I sold it and replaced it with a small 250 motorcycle. The savings in insurance alone now pays for the M/C gas and garbage service (which was what I mostly used it for). The $11000 I sold the truck for allowed me to pay cash for the M/C ($2000) braces for daughter ($4000) and new hardwood floors ($5000). Once I retire (10-12 years) or when the M/C wears out I will be car light. I actually ride the bike on days that it is to cold for the M/C due to the cold. We will always have my wife's vehicle.

bike: about 8,000 km
car: zero driving (no license) km, but lots of car-pooling to work
foot: too much
bus: lots of trips to work & back
plane: seattle to europe & back (which consumed a LOT of fuel, and money)
ferry: 80 km
train: 320 km (bellingham to seattle, twice)

Only about 3.5K miles on the bike this last year. Broken bones and out of town work (300 miles out of town) kept me in the car more than I wanted.

My car was stolen a few months ago and I have yet to replace it, so it looks like I'm going to be making up the miles in 'ought eight.

Sometimes it's even harder to reduce the air miles than the car miles. I know many people who make their living by hopping on a plane on Monday and return home by Friday. In some cases, there isn't much they can do except maybe find another job.

About 180 bike commute days, 25 mi RT average, about 4500 miles. Another 1200 miles for recreational rides, mountain bike rides and errand rides. Total = about 5700 miles.
