With 2007 winding down, I thought it would be fun to just reminisce on the past year.

Did you meet your goal?
What accomplishments did you meet?
What were you most proud of?

I'll start. First of all, I did set a modest goal of completing my triple crown ... which I did. I'm happy about that. Along with three double centuries, I did complete 10 centuries ... I had only done at most 3 in one year previously, and I didn't even complete 1 in 2006. Just thinking of that makes me feel proud.

The only thing I'm worried about is that I won't be able to keep it up. I also starting meeting of with all you SoCal BF'ers on rides this year, and that kept me motivated throughout the year. For that, I want to say thanks to the forum. I met a lot of new friends in the forum here this year (spending probably a lot more time on the Internet than I probably should).

My goal for 2008? I have no idea. I think it will be just to enjoy my ride. :D

Hey John,
Just lead a BF ride and I'll show up. I'm sure you'll get others to bite too.

As far as the year went, I met my goals quite well. Got on the bike on a regular basis and did my first century in good time and ready for more.

With 2007 winding down, I thought it would be fun to just reminisce on the past year. These were my goals, dug up from a post last year:

Drop my weight below 250 lbs. (currently: 283)
Complete three "easy" centuries (currently ride 50-60 milers)
Complete at least one "hard" or hilly century
Begin riding to the start of local club rides (20 miles away, one way) so I do at least 70-miles on Saturdays
Train more with local racing club/team
Did you meet your goal?
My weight got down to about 255 before I stabilized at 260-ish. Frustrating as the first 60 pounds just melted away, so I've kinda given up for now. Hopefully I'll find the motivation to continue.
I didn't really train for them, but I easily completed four centuries: Cruisin' the Conejo, Cool Breeze, Magical Moonlight, and El Tour de Tucson. None were major hilly ones, however: Conejo had the most elevation gain (~5,900 feet).
I'll classify the Tucson Century as the "hard" one.
I did ride to the start of a few club rides this year, which would give me about 80 miles for that day.
I did begin riding with local racing clubs/teams. In fact, for this year, I'll be riding for a local team.
What were you most proud of?Although it wasn't a goal from the beginning, and I didn't hear about it until 3-4 weeks prior, finishing the El Tour de Tucson in under 5 hours is what I'm most happy about. Easily. It was the hardest thing I did all year. Second would be coming in 2nd place at a local crit. Not as hard as some other things, but truly memorable.

My goals?
Well yes and no. I rode far more miles then my set goal. I rode alot of centuries, 3 in one month. I later realized that the goal of a century a month was taking some fun out of my riding, so I dropped it. To climb like Extort? Well I kinda doubt that IM doing that just yet, but I continue to work on that. Some day soon I will be there. Midway through the year I joined a racing club, mainly to improve my riding. Well that has happened, Im much faster now. I did my first road race.

I had injury problems last year and was off the bike for almost 2 months. So beating my mileage goal was my biggest accomplishment. This year my goal is to better manage that injury(my back) so that I can continue to ride and get stronger. Only plan on two centuries as most of my year will be focused on racing.

Really had no goals. I completed BA which was maybe sort of a semi goal. My only century this year. I had no interest in the CAM as I did it back in 2005. I was shooting for 12 centuries but ended up with 23 so I don't really see that as a challenge. That year was 7300 miles and I know I won't meet that again so I set my goal this year for 5,000 which I will meet today.

My only goal set for 08 is too lose the 30 extra lbs I've been lugging around and kick some *** on the KOM Challenge!:D

I thought about the Triple Crown for 08 but decided that the KOM would mean much more to me. Maybe next year on the TC. Just don't have the desire to spend 'ALL' my time this year trying to do both since I'll be trying to keep Gina on the road too!

As far as target miles next year, I have no goal, just more intensity.

I did it! Hit my 6000 mile goal today with my last ride of the year! :D :)

Also, I've done a century a month, but as I got a late start, came out one month short. :( It won't be official, but will finish up in January to at least have 12 months in a row and start off 2008.

As for next year? I'm working on those goals, but I'm thinking double century. Maybe increase my mileage goal by 10%. :)

Oh, and maybe actually make it to a BF ride! :D :p

Well the year was pretty much a complete loss. Hopefully next one will be better.

Did you meet your goal?

This year started out bad, but I met my goal of continuing with my Gold Thousand Mile Club with the CA Triple Crown (at least five doubles and one volunteer double each year).

What accomplishments did you meet?

I wanted to climb GMR/GRR (Glendora to The Village) ten times this year and ended with twelve. Plus I did the ski-lifts extra credit climb 5 times. So I became more "comfortable" as a climber, if not really any faster.

What were you most proud of?

Probably the Mt. Tam Double Century with 14,500 feet of climbing, since I was really unsure about being ready for it. My first one of the "Extremely High Difficulty" doubles.

Goals for 2008 include KOM with Mulholland and Heartbreak as doubles, plus five other doubles for a total of seven. My HUGE goal is to finish Terrible Two under the time limit, but I may not be up to that. It's in the "Radically High Difficulty" range . . . so kind of scary for me. Still, you never know . . .

I missed my goal of 7,000 miles by 270

But it's all good, as the reason I missed it was being in Canada for the last week. Had an awesome time there, and an awesome year for that matter. :)

This was my first full year on a road bike and my second year commuting to work. I commuted 219 out of 220 days worked. (That one day was when I had such a horrible hip flexor spasm that I only made it a quarter mile on the bike before I realized that I couldn't turn my head enough to see traffic. The hip bone is indirectly connected to the neck bone, it seems.)

My mileage goal for the year was 3000 and I met that goal by the end of October.

I blame my not having done a century on the fact that I have so few full days free. This implies that I need to start riding a whole lot faster :) But I did get to do a few metrics, so that's something. We're committed for 2008 to do some rides from Riverside to Newport Beach, so that'll satisfy the urge for 100 mile days.

I also wanted to learn as much as I could about building / maintaining bicycles. To this end, I did a single speed conversion and had a blast both doing it and now riding it. I also learned a lot about how to irreparably damage a wide variety of bicycle-related objects.

My biggest accomplishment is non-cycling related: I have finally committed to finishing my dissertation and to start teaching. Maybe it doesn't count as an accomplishment until the damned thing is finished, but {fingers crossed** that'll happen in 2008. (Unfortunately, this commitment vandalizes my goal of keeping my blood pressure down to the normal range. Can't win 'em all.)

I didn't have any goals when the year started because when it did, I had no idea I'd be riding a bike starting in June! I ended up getting a bike at the encouragement of some friends and was helped in finding one by Mr. Sorrell up there. I got a bike in June and with his help and encouragement was able to ride to the beach and back (70 miles give or take) 2 months later. The 15 pounds I lost wasn't a bad side effect either.

I set a goal of trying to ride 1500 miles for the half year, but I'm going to end up about 300 miles short in the end. Next year I'm going to try for 3,000, a couple of beach rides and maybe a century or two with some charity rides thrown in (perhaps).

All I know is that I'm hooked. After going from sucking wind riding 10 miles to being able to comfortably cruise 50, riding whenever and wherever I can, and always on the lookout for bike stuff, I can honestly say I'm hooked for good.

It's funny you mentioned that Ron, as I did give it some thought (yesterday and today).. But reality kicked in, and I opted for the 36 mile club "spin" today (40 yesterday), and had a blast!

Great! Having fun is all that counts. At least you were able to get out there, instead of slaving away in the office (and I'm still here, damnit).
