Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey all,
I realize that this is an unanswerable question. Or, it would be, if I was just asking which was better and left it at that. But I'm not. I have heard that the Yakima King Joe and Thule Speedway are both excellent but one might be better than the other based on your needs. I have a Cannondale Touring bike that I need to bring from CT to CO in my Mazda Tribute SUV. I read somewhere that Yakima is better for mountain bikes and smaller cars, which obviously wouldn't be good for me. But it's American made and looks a little cooler, I believe. So what should I get?
Cheers
I have no idea what a Thule Speedway is, but my Thule hitch-mounted rack admits rain water and rusts on the inside. Plus, it vomits rusty water onto things, and causes stains. I guess Thule designers live in the desert, or spend all their time indoors. My Yakima Spareroc, my first rack, gave me no such problems, and I will switch back to it once I get my Jeep back on the road. I guess I can bolt the Thule up indoors somewhere, where rain can't get to it, for indoor bike storage.

I've had both Thule and Yakima roof racks. No problem with the Thule. The Yakima is ok except my bike keeps falling off.

Had a Yakima system for 10 years, still going strong.

I have a used Thule roof rack system that I'd let go for $50.00 to cover packing and shipping costs. Actually, if you live within driving range of St Peters, Missouri you can come on over and just take it away. It includes load bars, aero towers, fit kit for a Saturn SL sedan, 2 Velo Vise fork mounts, short roofline adapter, wind fairing, and 8 keyed alike locksets.
I don't need it anymore because I bought a Honda Element last summer and now carry my bikes on the inside. PM me if you're interested. If no one responds, it's going into the dumpster when the weather warms and I decide to clean my garage.

As long as that's not a problem for you...
Have you considered taking a look at North Shore Racks ? I'm seeing more & more of them on the Shore these days . Just google them & you should be able to find their web site .
