Mountain Biking - Cannondale Full Wood

I have a chance to pick this bike up at a crazy low price, and I am seriously considering it. I took it for a test ride and this thing is FAST!

The fork on the bike I am looking at is a Lefty DLR Titanium, not like the one pictured below. Other specs: XTR rear dr, LX front dr, LX shifters, Hayes Mag disks, and XT cassette.

It's a 2002 leftover. Nobody wants it because of the wood decals and color (that's Viagra Blue on the top tube). But I dig it.

Thoughts? :)

I had an F2000SX, basically the same bike, but with XT/XTR components. My Lefty wasnt' the Ti version.

Good XC bike, superlight. I never had any problems with my Lefty and I'm a big guy (Clydesdale +). I also didn't have problems with the CODA disc brakes, but a lot of other people did.

I thought the woody decals were cool, but a bit over the top for me.

What kinda "Crazy Deal". If it's under $1500, it's probably worth it!.

Wait, didn't you just get a Scapel?

I think the Scapel is a much better bike for XC riding.

Indeed, I do own a Scalpel.

The reason I'm considering this is because I wanted a simple bike. The Scalpel is for long, fast rides on the trail. I was looking for a hardtail for misc. purposes (paved roads with the wife, urban rides, etc.).

that looks like a nice bike, allot of bike for paved roads and misc. purposes. You already have a fast XC bike, I thought you were looking for something else.

Cannondale makes some of the best hardtails in the world in my opinion.

Plus, I think everyone should own at least both a FS and a hardtail. :)

I used to have a 02 Cannondale F1000, exactly the same as the Full Wood just with a nice paint job :) I sold it over the net to some guy in Texas for $1600, big mistake, I miss it every day almost. I had alot of problems with the disc brakes, they would drag constantly for a while then stop, the start again, very annoying, also had the seal blow in the front one, so I had to send it back to Hayes for a rebuild :( Other then that I was very pleased with it, the Lefty is awesome of course, a little bit of stiction but it is an air fork so that's expected. Super light bike, 23.5lbs, very nice bike for slicing up technical singletrack, very fast handling, good acceleration. The only complaint I had with the performance is that it had a very low bottom bracket I felt, I was constantly hitting my pedals on rocks and things that I would never hit with my other bike (Trek hardtail) I would go for it, you'll love it.

The F1000 BB height is about 1" lower than my Scalpel. That is something I'll have to consider, since I am getting very comfy with the geometry of the Scalpel.

Still, that F1000 is a fast bike! I'm starting to obsess, I'll stop now. :)

It is a great deal, but do you really need another bike right at this moment?

I think, "if you got the cash, go for it" there is always room for more bikes.
