I hope everyone getting snow is having some fun with it.

We may be in Denver very soon :eek: and haven't a clue where we'll be staying. :rolleyes: Probably somewhere along the Cherry Creek Trail, anywhere from downtown to about East Jewell Avenue.

If we want to get a good 45 minute workout in without driving to the mountains, what's available once the snow is in Denver to stay? Are golf courses opened to xc skiing and perhaps snowshoeing? I'm most interested in those two activities since we have all of that gear. What about walking and running? Are the MUPs like Cherry Creek kept clear of snow or what do they do with them?

I would guess that just about any city park would at least allow for snowshoeing. Not sure if there's any city owned golf courses (I don't golf). I would think that some of the bigger parks (City, Washington, Cheeseman, etc) might be the best maintained and have some dedicated walking/ running lanes cleared of snow(?). I'm going to Washington Park (and Cherry Creek trail) this week to see what kind of condition the dedicated bike lane is in.

Most asphalt MUP in greater denver are cleared: This includes Cherry creek, Bear Creek, Platte, Clear creek

I got up one morning saw 5 inches in my driveway hurried down to Bear Creek with snowshoes and it had already been plowed.

If you are looking for non cleared I know there are areas of Chatfield SP they dont clear not sure about cherry creek sp or highline canal path.

Doubt this is relevant, but the Boulder Nordic club grooms North Boulder Park when there is enough snow. It was good this morning, but will probably be melted in a few days.

They clear the MUPS in the Parker area about as fast as they clear the roads. They would be generally rideable, if you look out for patches of snow and ice, especially in the shade areas of bridge underpasses.

Historically, the snow doesn't "stay" all winter, but melts and then snows again. However, last year was an exception, and this year may be also.

Certainly there are lots of places where one may take a decent walk. Cross country skiing is problematic most of the time, due to the generally rapid snow melt and plowed trails. Generally, there may be places in the state parks where one might XC ski (if there is enough snow) - Chatfield and Cherry Creek are both at about 5,000 acres.

You just don't know. Right now there are 2,000 folks trapped in the Dillon/Frisco area because of avalanche danger and blowing snow - it was fine just a couple of days ago.

The weather in Colorado is quite changeable, even in a couple of hours.

Sorry but that's not what I meant by snow not being a "factor". It was meant to be specific to our cross-training/off-bike exercise.

We're getting more snow and "weather" than normal as well. Cold too but I hear you guys are a couple of degrees colder. We went snowshoeing today for about 5 miles and the temp was 8 (f) not counting the wind chill.

We have about 1.5 feet of snow in our yard, down in town. Three more snow storms have been predicted within the next 7 days.

It's really warm and melty out today but if we get more snow soon, one never knows, you can snowshoe and x-country ski at City Park Golf Course which is right on 23rd and Colorado. You can park at the club house (26th and York) or at the Zoo or Nature and Science Museum in City Park.
