Northern California - mount hamilton 1/1/2008?

Anybody here riding up Mt Hamilton on New Years Day? I have heard this is something of a tradition but I don't know any details.

If I weren't on-call, I definitely would do this ... oh well, maybe next year.

I would do it, if it weren't for the early start.
I will still be tired from the night before.
I'm in but I'm going to get started early and go up via Quimby.

You just like to punish yourself, don't you?

Chain Reaction starts as a group, but I think there's a more organized start from a point somewhere west of there by a larger organization.

I'll be up late tonight as a designated driver, so doubt I'll be getting up early for anything. Have fun!

We have friends with young children, so our ride's local. Meet at Orchard School in Vacaville at 10 -- route TBD. Pace will be <20 and >15, she predicted optimistically. :D

Yep.;)
All right, well I'm gonna be there at 0930 with BF jersey on. Haven't taken the Della Santa up any serious climbs yet so this should be a nice shake-out and a good way to start off the year.
Happy New Year, everybody!
I started out a bit early to make sure I could get parking at the school. Stupid me forgot to bring the gore jacket so I had to pull a Belichick and wore a magenta sweatshirt over the base layer. With no pockets I shoved everything into a messenger bag and slung that over the shoulders. The weather sites didn't show anything nasty but I still brought extra items in case it was too cold at the summit (it wasn't). I used White road as a warm up for Quimby. Having the 34-26 and 34-29 combo proved a lot more useful up the nasty last section of switch backs and that final straight away. Chugging away at 4 mph but at least this time I could ride without zig zagging. A quick descent to 130 and it was on to the rest of the ride. I rode with a group of four riders for a bit including one gentleman in a Landshark jersey I knew would zoom by later. I tried to hang with another group of three riders but they were much stronger at keeping a high cadence. One of my goals for 2008 is to not tank out so quickly on hills at 70 and higher rpms. I didn't spend too much time at the summit and on the way back smiled and waved at everyone climbing up. This was my first Jan 1 ride and I have never seen so many cyclists going up the mountain. Back at Quimby and 130 I decided to climb the back side which is nowhere near as bad. I descended it once again and took 130 back to the school. The weather was certainly a lot nicer for this ride than the last trip up to the summit.

I'm jealous ... I so wanted to do this, and get my ass off this couch ... but being on-call meant being 20 minutes from a internet reachable PC ... which meant no riding for me. Oh well. Next time ... that's the only reason why you didn't see me advertising a BF ride up Mt. Hamilton on New Year's Day ... I would have.
I think I saw you descending 130 Bostic, I recognized your ponytail as you receded into the distance.
Man it was a nice day out there, I met some great people and had an awesome ride. My times were 2:11 up and :52 down.
Here's a the view from the top.
