and well because there is no way to order from Carnival in Japan.

I did some research and found this

click the image.
it isn't as thick as a champ grip but as thick as bartap and looks kind cool with may applications.

Seems like it'd be nice on some drops or horns but why the hell is it on that fork?

because the fork was worse without it?

steering with your fork is the new steering with your stem.

having the fork protection is for when you lay your bike against a curb. other wise you destroy the paint on the fork.

I dig it. Not the fork application, but as grips it looks fly.

oh ****! heatshrink grips

blickblocks
12-30-07, 06:32 PM
I never thought of that before. You could probably just use the stuff at home depot too right?

Those track drops would look good if they did the sensible thing and covered the whole.

12-30-07, 06:43 PM
you could use regular heatshink, but you might need to do a couple layers

Zombie Carl

Is it even semi-grippy?

sniks
12-30-07, 06:48 PM
it made for fishing pole grip so I'm sure its grippy and grips when wet as well
I like the idea of it covering entire bull horn

Can't wait for someone to try it and report back.

is the 30mm stuff small enough for bars i wonder?

sniks
12-30-07, 08:16 PM
it shrinks up to 50% so I would say 45mm. it shrinks to 22mm. aren't bars 22.2mm?
anything smaller might split i would imagine. read the info link on the page

Shrinks up to 50%. You're better getting something closer to your bar diameter...

In my experience with heat shrink you want it to just fit over what you are covering, then zap it with the heat gun.

This stuff looks like it might be sweet though. Regular heat shrink wouldn't have the grippy-ness that you would want, but if this stuff is made for fishing rods I would imagine it has some good grip.

That's true, but then what's the point in having a nice looking fork to begin with?

Fugazi Dave
12-30-07, 10:53 PM
Yeah....if your mode of protecting your paint totally covers it up with something less attractive, then what the hell's the point? Besides, people need to learn to embrace signs of wear, ****ed up paint included.

You can probably borrow one from a friend's dad who randomly has one in his basement next to a power-driver and hatchet.

You can get cheapo heat guns at http://www.harborfreight.com/ for 10 bucks.
Or maybe even Wal-Mart or somewhere like that?

I saw this stuff at Carnival and it did seem pretty grippy, but had very little cushion. Pretty cool stuff -- and the only affordable thing in the store. They actually used a blowtorch to heatshrink it. Overkill, but if you have access to one, it'll work. I'd imagine you'd have to be very careful not to burn a hole in it with the blowtorch tho!

Women call them hair dryers.

So we need an $80 hair dryer? :)
Heat guns can be had for 10 bucks and you dont have to listen to some woman whine about her hair dryer not getting broken.

mmmmm. What I would do is put on cork tape first, and then cover it with this. It says it can be used on cork, which is how fishing rods are made.

It's a great idea.

i have used hair dryers to heat shrinks on my tennis racquets. it works a little slower then heat gun but just as well. and it it does get smaller then your handle you can probably control it better with the dryer (spelling.)

post pics those things look kool!

Yes, the wang.
That stuff is supposed to have good grip in the wet.
A good grip is as imporant as technique. Whether it be your grip or your partner's grip.
