And I'm delighted.
Of course, by the time I get this cold weather (for San Diego) clothing dialed in, it will be Spring again. :)

You need longjohns for San Deago weather? You had better never come north for the winter.
On the other hand I'm familiar with folks in florida wearing hoodies at 60deg. Actually I kind of like that sort of weather.

Been riding in the low 50's. That was shirtsleeve weather when I grew up in Cleveland, especially this time of year. Down here it's downright frigid!

His blood has thinned since he moved south. He'd never survive in the North again.
Maybe I should get my boss to contract with DG for some January training here in Madison.

I would love to have low 50's right now:) We did 30 miles this morning in 29-32F weather. I wore PI wind-stopper pants with shorts underneath, a UA shirt, long sleeve jersey and jacket.

See, for San Diegans transplanted from Ohio, 50's are the new 30's.

I live about 100 miles North of DG. I have to say, I don't recall the weather being this cold during winter. It like I can't get warm. Today it was sunny. I rode with arm warmers, a craft tank, a heavy jersey and a wind jacket, long fingered gloves and my wool socks. At times I frooze. Can't believe I did this but I looked for climbs just to get warm! And yes I admit I am a So Cal weiner wuss. But usually I like cold weather. It just seems like it has been extra cold for us.

So how cold is "extra cold?"

Long johns? Listen, if you feel a draft on your backside, reach back and button the flap. It's the decent thing to do, especially if riding in a group.
Southern Californians talking about "cold" weather is just asking for laughs from those in the great white north.....
We rode in low-50s today.... 2 long-sleeve jerseys, jacket, long pants -- and I felt just right. The other day we rode in low-50s and I wore 1 long-sleeve jersey, 1 sleeveless jersey, the jacket and pants -- my arms felt cold, so that extra layer on my arms is just right for this temperature.
I'm going to have to make some notes about what layers feel just right at what temperatures because, as DG said, by the time we have this figured out it will be spring and we won't remember next winter.
I happen to LOVE this weather, I'll take it any day over the oppressive summer heat.
I recently bought a pair of full length leg warmers at REI, and I recommend them highly.

You are in a far better position to answer that one friend.
It's been cold here in the SF Northbay, too. Bone-chilling, damp kind of cold. Could it be that cold weather this close to the ocean is a different kind of cold?

DG: Cold is a subjective experience. Don't let the elitist attitude of those in the frozen north keep you from wearing the long johns. ;) I often note that here in the Philadelphia area, I'm wearing long tights and long sleeve jerseys several weeks before and after other riders do. But I'd sooner be comfortable than stylish when I'm riding.

Got good advice from my kid about outdoor exercising when it starts getting cool (cold) He says that runners use a 20 degree rule of thumb. That is, ride wearing clothes for temps that are 20 degrees warmer than the ambient temp. So if it is 50 out, wear what you would wear outside when it is 70 and you are just hanging out. I find that overdressing can make a person cold, because you sweat and then the soaked t-shirts or whatever can chill a person. This is especially true on longer rides where you stop for a while and then get going again--really cold. One solution is to carry a spare t-shirt and when you stop, put it on so that you have dry material next to your skin. We all do ride hard enough to sweat, don't we?

I don't think so!

I sure wouldn't mind being less elite right now. Prediction for Wednesday is high 13, low 3.

That's about what it is here, if those numbers are Celcius!

I always can't wait until the temps hit 55 in the spring. That's my cue to break out the shorts.
