Not the DK version but the original early eighties softback.

I think it's out of print but it was a great read. has anyone come across a copy lately?

Hi Chewa,

I never wrote a book in the early eightys...either soft or hard...I was only 5 in 1980...bless.

chewa,
I found used copies at Amazon's US website (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/offering-page/ref=sdp_po_u2/107-0318505-1725360?index=fixed-price&field-offering-type=used&field-asin=0345028139&field-status=open&size=25&rank=+price&dbdat=2).
Since you live in the UK, try their UK website and see if there are any available.
Good luck.

His Ultimate Bicycle Book is even better. In fact, barnesandnoble.com has Richard Ballantine listed as having written 16 best sellers.

I treasure my copy of the original edition. It wasn't just a good technical resource but a great read on the joys of cycling. I still recall the section where he desribes how he kept up a beater cruiser just to ride it into the waves at the beach - "riding into the maw of the comber" or something to that effect. Maybe he was a free-rider ahead of his time.

I saw a copy of Richard's 21st Century Bicycle Book the other day - which I think is an update of the original - certainly a lot more material than the DK version I've got.

Richard (and not that one)

I've got this one! Found it for £7 in a book sale, didn't realise what a good buy that was, and have read and reread and read it some more. Every time I read a bit I just want to go out cycling. :)

I've seen it in Borders, I think, but at the full price.
