Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Rtchey Pro Wheelset vs 210 lb guy

Last fall,I entered a contest sponsored by a regional cycling association.
Well, I won the top prize which is a Fully CF Motobecane Immortal Force (bikes direct)
The wheelset is Ritchey Pro.
I figure NOW (before they ship the bike)is a good time to ask if this wheelset is going to hold up under a "210 lb" guy.
If not, can you folks throw out some suggestions (which won't equal the bike in cost)
If need be I can talk a swap with either bikesdirect or my local bike shop.

Ranger63, I rode an Immortal Force nearly all of 2006 I started riding it at about 270 pounds and managed to get my weight down to 230 by the end of 2006. All the while on Ritchey WCS Protocols (these are actually a bit lighter than the Ritchey Pro) with no problems with the wheels. As with all internet recommendations the proviso is that YMMV. It will very much depend on how "light" your riding style is.

Except for the weight wienie bikes (where a rider will spend $500 to save 5g -- personally the 5,000g I want to lose off the "engine" will be a lot cheaper :D), most bikes should have no trouble with a 210lb rider, best is to contact the company or dealer, and see if there is a weight limit on that particular model, if not then enjoy, make sure you take your new toy to a reputable Local Bike Shop, have them give it a full inspection, and tighten and true then wheels.....

As long as the spokes are proprerly tensioned, you shouldn't have problems.

I heard there were some issues with the internal clamp loosening on the seatpost??
My riding style (at 65)is not out of the saddle (save a hill climb)sprinting. I usually spin and work my way up thru the gears maintaining a certain cadence thruout the ride.
This'll be my first upgrade from steel (currently riding a 91 Paramount PDG OS3 with stronglight compact 46/34 -12-26 setup)

Oh, forgot to ask - What's the spoke count? 20/24?

I tried cyclocross this year - my bike came with Ritchey Pro wheels and so far they've been fine. Spoke count is 20 front and 24 rear (bladed spokes.) I abused them pretty good and they took all I dished out. I've got to think that if they can stand up to my 225 lbs. over rough dirt & gravel trails, bombing downhill over dirt berms, etc... they would be fine on the road.

Hey Daveyboy, what cyclocross bike did you get and do you have any good local cyclocross riding areas up around us? I have promised myself the titanium cyclocross from BikesDirect when it comes out this summer.

Hi Millcreek - I bought a Redline Conquest Pro. I've had to drive to most of my rides, mainly south around the Auburn area. But I do ride it up Japanese Gulch occasionally. You mentioned the trails in Lord Hill Park, that I want to try sometime soon.

I'll also take it camping this summer and ride around with my boys on the trails (Lake Wenatchee.)

It's been a great bike, I'm going to add some fenders and change the tires and use it as my rain bike for a few months.

Let me know if you find more trails when you buy your new ride.;)
