Touring - John Wayne Trail

I’m planning to ride the John Wayne/Iron Horse Trail from North Bend (Washington) to the Idaho border this summer. Has anyone here done this ride?

I have only done about 30 miles which would be to Cle Elum. It is hard pack gravel the grade is from 2% to 4% mostly 2%. This would be from Rattle snake park to the Snoqualmie tunnel after that it levels out. There are two small camp grounds just past Hyak on the trail cost $5.00 the first one you can get water from a stream easier, take a water filter to be safe. There are actually three tunnels you go through before you get to Easton. The first is the Snoqualmie tunnel, have a good light it is 2 miles of dark. The other two are much shorter. There in Cle Elum there is a train depot they have made into a restraunt it is pretty good. That is as far as I have gone on the trail. I hope this might help a little

Thanks for that information. I live in Cle Elum and have ridden the trail 6 or 7 miles in each direction from here but the idea of riding the entire length has been gnawing at me for awhile and I've just decided I'm going to do it this year.

I've got one question for anyone who has gone to Ellensburg how do you get through town to continue on the trail?

I know how to get there, but I don't remember the street names. :o I'm headed down there on Thursday, so I'll check it out and post directions when I get back.

I just got back from Ellensburg; here are the directions to navigate through town to connect with the John Wayne Trail.
Coming from the West, the John Wayne Trail ends at Water St and 15th Ave. Turn right on Water St and then left on 14th. Fourteenth takes you through the University Campus. Turn right on Alder St and continue past University Way (traffic signal). The trailhead is about a block and a half past University Way on the left. Directly ahead are the Fairgrounds which have public restrooms that should be open during the summer.

Let me know when you're coming through and maybe we can meet at the South Cle Elum Depot for coffee or lunch.

Thanks for the info, I intend to go to Vantage then on to Yakima then return to the trail early this summer. Ellensburg was a stumpling point for me. Thanks again.
