This young Austin area man in the Commuting Forum is considering cycling as an alternative to car ownership and all that goes with it while in high school. It's not a bad idea considering what he says he'd like to use it for and how much money he could save for college instead. Not surprisingly, his father is concerned for his safety. Now we all know cycling can be dangerous, but life is dangerous in general - especially for a teenager. With the right knowledge, we know it doesn't have to be the near suicide so many noncyclists believe riding to be. It seems to me he needs some support, and who better to ask than those of you who are his neighbors and members of his community?
You can read about him in this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=375133). I know you all are far more aware of local resources than the great people who are offering advice about bike choice, etc. Perhaps you can be of some assistance to him. :)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
