Road Cycling - Wrecked AGAIN! At high speed! Are my Sidis cursed?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay, for the past two monhs, I've been riding my bike with Performance Due shoes. Cheap, but effective. I hadn't had a single wreck, fall, or anything. Not even a close call. No clipless problems, NOTHING!
The other day I get a new set of Sidi Dynamics, and about 1 minute into my VERY FIRST RIDE with them, I wreck at about 15 MPH. (See "Those who have, and those who will). I pick up my pieces and head home, since I just wanted to try 'em out a little anyway. No real damage, just a bruised knee, torn up left cheek (not face), and my handlebars were tilted up.
The NEXT day, I somehow don't clip out of my pedals at a stop sign and fall over. I NEVER have problems clipping out. Not even a stray thought about it. Sigh. I figure that it was 'cause I wasn't sure what the car turning ahead was doing. Hmm.
Today, however, I'm haulin' down a hill at about 35MPH. Determined to hit 40MPH before I leave for the Marines on Monday, I shift to my big front chainring. POW- my left foot pops out of the pedal, I lose control a bit, and run onto the grass. Intent on NOT pulling the same uneven-pavement-to-grass routine I pulled the other day, I decide to pull a Lance and ride off-road for a little bit. I figure I can slow down in the grass and take a less drifting line back onto the pavement. Good plan, no? It worked fine for about a second. Then I saw the ditch.
There was a small ditch running parrallel to the road that had grass growing out of it- that was the same length as the surrounding grass. In other words, it was impossible to detect until I was about 3 feet from it. Which I was. BAM! No time to react, Cole goes flying over the handlebars, lands on his right hip and left knee, nails his ankle on something on the bike, and rolls a few times. Ouch.
As I lay there, wondering what I've gotten myself into by buying these shoes, a car goes by- the driver had seen the whole thing, and didn't bother to stop. In the next 30 seconds, 4 more cars and 6 bikers went by. Not a single one even asked me if I was okay. Arrg. :crash:
Turns out I bent my handlebars, bent my wheels so bad I had to limp it home on my aching shoulders, as they were rubbing the brake pads, and I think I bent my front derailleur(SP?). Sigh.

What do y'all think? Cursed Sidis?

On the one hand, I'm pissed I wrecked and all that, but on the other, I'm glad I survived with minor injuries and I now have an excuse to buy a new wheelset. And since most wheels won't work with my 7 speed casette, I'll have to get an 8 speed. And I'd hate to have that extra gear and not be able to use it, so I might just have to upgrade some of the rest of my less-than-stellar components.... After boot camp:(

Couldn't be mixed feelings about going into the corps now could it?

I love your attitude - great time to upgrade! You must not be married. I tried explaining to my wife why I needed a new, more expensive bike after I crashed. Her comment was , obviously you couldn't ride the one you had - why are you going to buy another?

no, silly, it isn't the sidis that are cursed. the problem is that your bike is not working together well, the sidis feel that they are better then the rest of bike. the result? internal conflict. your components just can't concentrate on doing their jobs. a shame really. you need to upgrade to dura ace soon, man, or there'll be all sorts of trouble.

In all seriousness, you probably need to have your pedal tension adjusted, and your cleats professionally aligned. also, the sidis require an adapter plate, right? mebbe that is not tightened down enough, causing slop that would make it difficult to clip in/out.

Whoops, also are these new pedals? you might just have toget used to them.

You never mentioned which pedals you're using. Some shoes are incompatible with some pedal cleat designs or need to have some trimming done to the sole (example: need to trim to enlarge cleat box area for Speedplay Frog cleats in SPD adapters for Look style mounting on Sidi road shoes) in order to ensure smooth operation.
