Southern California - I Wish Caligurl and Sir Lance Would Return

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Great...run her off even before she returns. :p
Sir-Lance is logged on right now. I hope they're doing well. I loved the Joshua Tree ride and can't believe that it was over a year ago.

I haven't seen caligurl in ages. She doesn't check into TE either. Last time I heard from her was ages ago (and April sounds about right)...
I know she said she was getting into a new hobby, but it sounds as if she's still out there riding. It would be nice to have her back, although I think she's afraid of ovoleg.

No Brian, I have not heard of him. But seeing another post of yours, he died while cycling of an aneurysm?
Do you have any other details, like his last name, where he lived, etc.?

He was 52. When I first met him about 7 years ago, I assumed he was in his late 30's. I had no idea he was that old. But he was fit as can be. When we went mountain biking, he was always out front, and always first to the top of any climb. I'm sad.

With asians, it's hard to tell how old by looking at their picture. I mean ... how many would think I'm 44  I'll be 45 in 3 months

Exactly. I met him through my brother, and just assumed they were about the same age. Heck, he had braces back then, and could probably have passed himself off as a teenager, if it wasn't for his son. And believe what everyone wrote about him - he really was one of the nicest people you could hope to meet.

When I met you last year on the Grand Tour Double, I thought "Maybe early 30's . . . " No way I would have guessed mid-40's!
Since I am not Asian (half Scots, half German), I actually look quite old! :(

PS: What is "ABC" in this context? My wife has Chinese students who are "FOB" and they're Fresh Off Boat . . . but what is ABC?

When I met you on a couple of the rides, I figured you were about my age. I think you have more white hair than I do though. I will be 45 in 5 months. You had glasses on so I thought you were Hispanic!:D

I knew him. I just saw the picture and this is quite a shock. He was truly a nice person, I don't think I ever heard anything negative from him. He came to my job to repair windshields and I would stop working to go an talk bikes with him, it always made the day better. I tried to ride with him, but he was sooo much faster than me, it was better to just say hi at the start.
I can't believe he's gone.

Car dealer. I'm telling you, seeing Rod was the highlight of my work week because he was someone from the bike world, and a great guy, too.

You probably know my brother then. Not as nice as Rod was, but a good glass guy. He's pretty upset too, since he and Rod used to ride on a regular basis.

I met Rod's friend Ian, they rode with our club once near Frazier Park. Other than that, I only met his girlfriend at the Tour of California. Is your brother in the car biz?

He does auto glass as well. Used to own Certified Glass in Simi, now he works for some clown in Thousand Oaks. I think Rod's son asked him about taking over Rod's business.

ABC ... American Born Chinese. But I also refer to it as how much I know of the chinese language ... just the ABC's. I also call myself a twinkie or a banana. Just guess what I'm referring to ...
