i just got mine today.
i'm soooo stoked to start doing races and such! if the clinic comes to a city near you, i highly reccomend registering and going, it's super fun and totally worth it.
Is this a racing license or a license to run clinics for bike maintenance?

it's a neutral mechanic's license. i should have said that....so basically, i can show up at a local event, flash my little card and be like, "i'm here to help out." and now i can. i learned stuff like how to put a tubular tire on the right way, how to change a wheel during a race, how to clean bikes after a race, and how to deal with athletes and spectators and all kinds of cool ****. plus it comes with a 50% discount on parts and tools through a few certain distributors.
Cool. So how do you get the license, how did you hear about it, how long does it take, how much does it cost, etc.
In other words, tell me everything you know!

Are you a USAC licensed mechanic as described here? http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=142
Or did you attend a clinic?

To be honest I dont know the difference between the two. Licensed mechanics need to go to Colorado and must have 2 years of mechanics experience.

at the clinic i attended, they had us take a test, and pay a $50 licensing fee.
i should be getting my Cat 4 mechanics' license in the mail shortly. they mentioned the colorodo springs thing too. i think you have to go to that if you want to get anything beyond a cat4. it was confusing when they went over it too. i can work local events and anything they call me up for as long as i can pay the travel costs.
