I haven't watched the video yet, but from what I've read, yes they do laugh. But thr laugh is at a frequency too high for human range.

I know for a fact they have a sense of humor... Their cage is a large multi level affair from Martins Cages. Each floor has a balcony between it and the next full floor. We give them small 6x6inch cardboard box 'houses' to curl up in, climb on, or just chew up for nesting material.

Anywho... Sometimes the box will make it onto a balcony, upended with a rat or two curled up inside sleeping. Some one will come along and push the box off the balcony and watch gleefully as the rat/s inside come grogilly out of the aftermath with a WTF look on their faces.

EDIT: Watched the video. It supports what I read. :)

Thanks

Rats are great pets. In fact, one of my sisters just got a pair for Christmas, from me mum!

[She asked for them, and has had pet rats in the past, so no, it was not a surprise or a joke.]

We've been keeping them for about 6 or 7 years now.

We've been keeping them for about 6 or 7 years now.

Rats were my first pets! For some reason we had coaxed my father into going into a now defunct pet shop on San Carlos Avenue in San Jose. He had kept mice when he was a lad, so for old times sake he was looking at the mice. Right next to the mice were the rats. They were darling! And they didn't stink!

Upshot--we took home a pair. Didn't tell mother for the first day. Broke the news to her the following day. After a bit of 'eeeewwww' she decided that the rats were perfectly charming :) .
