I was so fed up I pulled up netscape to try another browser. Well this browser is firefox and is still stalled out. Netscape browser went through the whole registration in about 2 Min. If you are stalled out try starting all over. I signed up for 200K.:) I think I will let this Fire Fox still try to see if it ever goes any farther.

hey, don't forget... HHH is offering an additional 300 person lottery this year for those who don't get in via the website registration. Go to their website... and check it out... here's what they have posted...

New for 2008 is a registration lottery. We will be allowing an additional 300 registrants to the ride through a lottery system this year. If you are not able to secure an online registration slot for the ride, you may download and print the following lottery form and send it to us postmarked between January 26 and February 2, 2008.

I got the email confirmation, then later got this email below. WTF? Did anyone else get this?

=============================

Your registration was one of several registrations that were marked at pending during the registration process for the Horribly Hilly Hundreds this morning.

We held back a number of slots for pending registrations such as yours. We will be processing these pending registrations today and let you know of the status. Sorry for any inconvenience.

No I did not receive one of those emails. I feel very fortunate that I was able to register, and amazed at how poorly the whole registering process went down. I sympathize for all those who wasted the morning trying to register. :(

"Steve, your website sucks."

I did get in. It took about 30 minutes. Horrid. Pathetic. It is like the people running HHH learned absolutely nothing from last year. If they worked for me doing something that was kind of meaningful they would be fired without hesitation. 1 failure = OK. 2 failures in a row - you lose.

/rant

Sorry. I am sure they probably thought they were improving and doing a good job. Also I should be mindful of the fact that most people organizing these things are volunteers and hardly ever get a thank you.

Anyway....we should get a nice contingent of BF'ers setup at the beginning together. We'll scatter on the first climb, but at least we can jabberjaw until then. Also might help us recognize another fellow BF'er in trouble later on.

Also if I go with anyone doing the 200K I will need someone to sit and drink beer with for 4-5 hours again....:D

Wow. Now I'm glad I decided to volunteer this year. The one decent thing they do is guarantee last year's volunteers a spot in the ride.

I'm wondering if the DLD is going to get all popular now. It doesn't sell out as fast as the HHH, or at least it didn't in its first two years.

I was able to register in about 5-10 mins. right at 9am this morning. Sucks for those who had trouble. On the bright side, if you weren't able to register and don't get a spot through the lottery, your weekend should be free to fill a volunteer position :) See you there

That sounds good I would like to see how many BF'ers will show up and to put a face with a name.

What about the night before. Is there a hotel most of you stay at or at least one within walking distance of where we might have a beer or 2 or 3 or, well you get the idea.

I would like to set it up in advance so I don't have any problems getting a room.

Is there a place in Madison you could recommend? Something with beer, along the lines of the Capital Brewing Company or something like that?

Last year, the wife and I stayed at the Super 8 in Verona. Nice place and only about 10-15 minutes away. She's going to be working that weekend so if anyone is looking to split a room lemme know.

I don't get out enough to have a recommendation (though if you're talking about Capital Brewery in Middleton, I hear that's good). We do have a number of places with beer however. Count me in for a night-before gathering.

hotel info for HHH if anyone is interested...

The boy and I are staying at the Fairfield Inn in Middleton... it's pretty nice... and $89.00 for one night, not a bad price. I stayed here last year and it's perfect location for this race :D

A pre-ride social is a great idea- can you imagine the sandbagging that will take place?

May I recommend the Great Dane brewpubs? Good microbrews, and surprisingly good (and varied) food. There's one downtown, one in Fitchburg (south of Madison) and one in Hilldale (west of downtown on University- easier for those of you staying in Verona/Middleton). I don't know Middleton well enough to recommend a place- Wiswell- care to chime in? Capital brewery in Middleton is great beer, but they don't serve food at the brewery.Though name a place in the area and they'll probably be serving something from Capital, New Glarus, Ale Asylum, etc...

Another idea- It just so happens that the Madison Mallards (www.mallardsbaseball.com) have a night game on Friday, the 13th (I'm sure they'll have a crazy promo). Tickets are cheap, beer is good, and it's surprisingly fun to watch college players play with wood bats in their off season.

Perfect post, jb.

No one ever sandbags. We already know how lousy we ride. :)

Last year a couple of us who stayed in the spartan-like environs of the Mt Horeb HS gym bent the elbow at the Grumpy Troll. Pretty good beer.

Oh, and please, no photos of the FIBs while they are tippling, they are shy and elusive...

Dude. Tiger Woods is like my height. I swear! I saw him...

....good times....Almost makes getting up the next morning to ride a bike a bit of a shame. We should plan one of these and just spend the whole time drinking.

"But honey it's a huge ride! Everyone is going. It's in Idaho. I'll be gone for 4 days. I'll be sore when I get back. I'll have to sleep for 2 days undisturbed. Thanks!"

Any of the hotels in Middleton are a good location for traveling to the ride. Also, there are a couple of cheaper residence-style Inns on Junction Rd/Old Sauk Rd in Madison which are just as close.

As far as food, the Greenway Station area where whitesox is staying is chain restaurants USA (Boston's, Macaroni Grill, Quaker Steak and Lube, Friday's), which may be fine for you suburbanites with your endless miles of identical tan house and tiny trees (oops, I digress).

Excellent and unique diner food:
Hubbard Diner in "downtown" Middleton, about 1 1/2 miles from the Greenway Station hotels. But, there is no beer, but great pie. Heck, you'd be so close I could join in (only about 1 1/2 miles from me in Mad.) I would recommend eating there, and then taking a five block walk directly to Capital Brewery biergarten.

Good unique pub food:
The Village Green in "downtown" Middleton is supposedly good too, but my aversion to smoking (ashtray of the midwest, we are) keeps me away from most Middleton establishments (city of Madison restaurants are smoke-free) unless they are well divided.

And the Nitty Gritty on Gammon Rd (Park St) in Middleton has some fine burgers and beer, and is also about 3 miles from the hotels. If it's your birthday you get bottomless glasses of select beers (Leinenkugel and some Cap Brews) and a shot of ice cream sundae.

Interesting enough chain food:
There is also the Claddagh pub in Greenway station near those same hotels. It's ok.

P.S. They are also building a hotel which might be done by the HHH in Verona, which is even a tad closer to HHH and right next door to an old fashioned bike shop, Atkins (owner does everything).

The nice thing about where whitesox is staying is it is very convenient to some nice riding. This is the heart of my riding stomping ground and the edge of ironman/WSC territory, which you can get to in about five miles, so if you arrive the afternoon before you can take a nice ride.
